I'm having a problem with my Huawei E353 usb dongle. Every time i plug the dongle into my macbook pro, a black screen comes up asking me to restart the laptop by holding down the power button. How do i resolve this problem? I am currently running Snow Leopard 10.6.8

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

    You're experiencing Kernel Panics.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3742

That is often caused by bad hardware, incompatible hardware, or a software error.

The first recommended step as detailed above, is to power the computer off and try a safe boot.

Thank you so much! The problem seems to have subsided for now. I will continue to monitor the situation.

Does the Kernel Panics damage your computer as you need to reboot your computer quite often sometimes???

I seem to have found the solution to my problem. It appears that when i installed Mobile Partner with Dashboard Installer, thats when plugging in the usb dongle caused the kernel panics. However after installing Mobile Partner normally, there was no longer any kernal panics and the usb dongle works fine

Perhaps you could help me as well? I also have a problem with Huwei E353. My Mac recognizes the device, tries to connect and after a few seconds says 'connection terminated'. With my old PC (HP) it worked well, never any problems. Thanks in advance!

When you plug in your E353 modem, mobile partner shows up right? So did you install mobile partner? Make sure to install it normally and not through any other 3rd party software. And to use mobile partner is simple. All you have to do is:

    1. Install Mobile Partner

    2. After opening Mobile Partner, go to Tools located at the top of your screen, the toolbar with the Apple icon

    3. In Tools, select options and the navigate to Profile Management

    4. In Profile Management, click on the "New" button, then click on the "Save" button, then click "Ok"

    5. That's it, setup is complete. Plug in your E353 (if it isn't already plugged in). Wait for the program to detect and recognize your device, and once you see the signal strength icon at the bottom left corner of Mobile Partner, you can hit the "Connect" button, and your E353 should work perfectly

What you can also try is to remove Mobile Partner, and then reinstall it. Or download it if it doesn't not come standard with your E353. You can get it here:
