Importing movies from camera crashes iMovie

I'm using iMovie 11 (version 9.0.4). My camera - Canon FS200 E - is a supported camera. But when I plug the camera in and iMovie starts to look for movies to import it crashes. Everytime.

I've tried another process File > Import > Movies. I've navigated through the various files on the video camera until I get to what looks like the videos and clicked import, it then scans the files, but says they are not importable.
