Your question seems very familiar and I think that I answered a question very similar to this.

I don't know why it would disappear from iTunes - because that is a function of the iTunes app on the computer.

Did you try reinstalling iTunes? Or in the interim, have you tried just dragging the files into the file sharing window?

Connect the iPad to the Computer and launch iTunes.

Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.

Click on the Apps Tab on the right.

Click on the app that you want to share with in the file sharing window of the apps tab

Drag the file from the desktop into the file sharing window on the right.

Go here and download the app from here.

I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss the resetting all settings. I have never done this, but Tom seems to be pretty confident that it would work.

I don't know how or why resetting settings on the iPad would impact the way it interacts with iTunes on the computer and that is my only question in this case. But maybe resetting the iPad settings might work.

And resetting the settings is not like restoring the iPad. You would just be adjusting the iPad settings back to the factory settings. It doesn't affect email accounts or passwords or anything like that,

Thanks for the advice - yes I know abut dragging the files into the file sharing window, but it is really annoying not having the 'add' and 'save' button and also I can't always scroll to the bottom of the file sharing window to see the last files I'm trying to sync or delete. If I reinstall should I download the latest version of iTunes as a new application and run it? (I'm on Mac Book Pro). If I do that I guess it means I have to set up all my music folders, playlists, files to share etc - is that correct?

HereIsTom - I don't want to reset all settings because I think that would wipe out all my other settings.

I am using a MacBook Pro myself. Have you checked to see if you have updated to the latest version of iTunes? Launch iTunes and got to iTunes>Check for updates. Try that - unless you know that you are running the most recent version already.

Have you tried just quitting iTunes, rebooting the Mac and restarting the iPad?

If you reinstall, I would just reinstall over the existing iTunes and it should not wipe out anything in the library. However, if you wanted to be safe, you might want to backup the library first. If you use Time Machine, that is already taken care of.

Tom may be right about resetting all settings for all I know. Resetting all settings will just reset app settings and device preferences. You will have to choose your wallpaper again, set your brightness, things like that.

Tom & Demo - you are both heroes!

Tom was right - the reset on the iPad worked (the reinstall of iTunes made no difference, although I do think I forgot to reboot after installing, so now I'm not positive about that).

I only needed to re-enter initial set up details (so if anyone else does this be sure you know your network password) and the wall-paper - everything else remained inact.

Thanks so much.
