Can I sync my iRiver H340 with iTunes?

I recently got my old iRiver H340 working and I'd like to be able to get the MP3s off it and onto my iPod.

Unfortunately I realise theWMA files will need to be converted or junked but it there any way I can use the iRiver with iTunes to get off all the MP3 files?

There are around 40gig of these and many are from albums or sources I no longer hold so any help is appreciated!

Your iRiver should be able to connect as an external drive. You can simply copy all the files to your local hard drive.

My suggestion would be to put everything in a folder called inside your media folder called, say, iRiver, e.g. as <User's Music>\iTunes\iTunes Media\iRiver. Use File > Add Folder to Library to import this folder. On the first pass dismiss the option to add the WMA files. This will import the mp3s and let iTunes move them around (assuming you let iTunes keep the files organized).

You can then set your desired import settings, e.g. 128k mp3 if they are 128k wma files, then import the folder again this time allowing the conversions. If you have a lot of files you can break down the conversion into smaller chunks.
