Q: Software up to date - still no SIM recognition - HELP!

I have had this problem from the first day I bought my phone. Making me crazy. I did as this article suggested and plugged in my phone but it doesn't suggest new updates. What do I do now?

iPhone 4S, iOS 5.1

Where exactly did you get the phone?  Did you purchase it from your carrier, at an Apple Store, or from a 3rd party (gray market) source?

OK... And where are you? What carrier are you trying to use? What exactly is the error message you're getting? Have you spoken to your carrier and/or tried a new SIM?

We're not psychic... you have to give us something to work with, here.

Of course. I'm in Ontario Canada. The message I get on a regular basis is "No SIM card installed." I've owned the phone for about 1 year. My carrier is Telus. I've looked this problem up on the internet many times and many people have reported it but there does not seem to be a definitive solution and many of the conversations end with no solution. This morning I asked Telus about it and they said many phones have the same issue and they suggested I open and close the SIM tray - which I did - and it did reset it! Up to now, I had been force powering the phone on and off until it came back. Sometimes I have done that 15 times and the missing SIM has lasted over an hour. Very frustrating when I've been in urgent need of my phone.

Can I be sure that after buying a new SIM the problem won't be there again - especially since I've had this problem from the beginning, when my SIM was brand spanking new. Or maybe that reasoning is incorrect. Maybe the SIM is a lemon - but I doubt that since so many others have the same problem.

    Hope that helps.

See how it bahaves now that you've re-seated the SIM. I assuming you're using an actual Micro-SIM from your carrier, not a SIM that was cut.

No idea what a new SIM would cost you.  There are generally no charges associated with a replacement SIM South of your borders.

I'll see how it behaves. BTW - thank you for your very prompt reply and your follow through. Totally caught me by surprise to have heard back (to be honest). I do love my iphone but this SIM thing has had me pretty crazy at time. Cheers.
