Free Mountain Lion Upgrade

I filled in the info for the free Mountain Lion upgrade on my retina macbook pro... unfortunately I'm from Canada and it asked for a zip code (even though I was on apple.ca). I put in my postal code and was able to "submit my info" and get a claim reference number. Hopefully it still works.. I did notice it appended United States to my address too.

I stupidly missed that in the first email. I've heard it takes 30 minutes to install Mountain Lion. So far it has taken 40 minutes to get the redemption code for the free download, and this is presumably from an automated system.

Anyone who is eligible for the free update might consider just paying for it. It's not much money, and it is much faster.

I haven't received a redemption code yet, and I started this as soon as the site came up. Waiting an hour to save $20 doesn't make sense to me. My time is worth more than that. I think it's best just to purchase it, especially if you have more than one Mac.

Apple seems to forget that 40% of the US population lives in the Eastern time zone, so if they release an update at 6:00 am their time, it's 9:00 am our time, when we are all hovering over our Macs waiting for the software to become available and hitting their servers at the same time. The load on their servers would be spread out better if they released it at 3:00 their time, 6:00 ours. I'm sure that can be automated, so no one has to get up early.

When I click on the up to date programme I read this

To qualify for the Up-To-Date Program, please enter the following information.

If you are an Enterprise, Education Institution, or Government customer and you have purchased 20 or more qualifying systems, you can receive a Right to Copy license.

I am a private user, so shouldn't it be straight forward? Can anyone here shine some light? Thanks
