Q: Installing Canon SELPHY CP780/790 driver in Mountain Lion

Hey there,

I just figured out a way to install the new Canon SELPHY CP780 driver from the Canon site in Mountain Lion. This driver from March 2012 doesn't install on OS X 10.8 so you need to fiddle with the installer package.

Here are the steps to install this printer driver on Mountain Lion:

1) Go to http://pdisp01.c-wss.com/gdl/WWUFORedirectTarget.do?id=MDEwMDAwNDIwNDAx&cmp=ABR& lang=EN and download the printer driver

2) Double click the cp780-790os-x-06.dmg file

3) Open a new Finder window so you can see the new device "cp780-790os-x-06" in the sidebar.

4) Open the device by clicking it

5) Copy the file "SELPHY CP series Printer driver_6.0.0.21.mpkg" to your desktop by dragging it with the left mouse button.

6) Click the file "SELPHY CP series Printer driver_6.0.0.21.mpkg" on your desktop with the right mouse button and chose "Show contents"

7) Double click the directory "Contents" in the new Finder window

8) Right click "distribution.dist" and chose "Open with.."->TextEdit

9) Change the first function "installationCheck() so it looks like this:

function installationCheck() {

return true;

}

10) Press CMD-S to save the changes.

11) Double click the file "SELPHY CP series Printer driver_6.0.0.21.mpkg" on your desktop to execute it

The installation should work now.

I used the cp780-790 os-x-06.dmg driver for my CP780 with your patch.

Printer is recognized, but the 4x6 paper format is not listed and if I enter it manually, it says "paper format not supported".

Anyone has a soliution?

Hi, i have Chosen antoher Format in the listing.

One of them is a little Bit bigger, but it still Works.

Did you ever figure out how to get the driver to install mmiller22? I have the same problem with my printer. It will do one pass and pull in the paper, and then nothing. I've exhausted this thread and tried out everything everyone has suggested, to no avail.

Without deleting any of the code, one can simply edit the ProductVersions. Change 10.7 to 10.8 and alter 10.8 to 10.9 or 11.0 (doesn't matter as long as it's not the current OS version).

if ( (system.compareVersions( system.version.ProductVersion, '10.8' ) == -1) || (system.compareVersions( system.version.ProductVersion, '10.9' ) != -1) ){

The paper issues are not related to the driver. One still has to make sure to go through the proper printer dialogs for print settings and paper handling.

no Ive just tried again -downloaded the driver , erased the code as suggested , saved etc etc - same result: first pass then paper hangs indefinitely .....I give up!

I also have ES30 and i followed the instruction but it never worked with me. After installing it, I tried to add the printer but only saw CP780 and CP790 as drivers. I tried to select one and tried to print but still get the printer error.

May I know how you did it? Or anyone else with ES30 who was able to install it in Mountain Lion 10.8.4? Very much appreciated!

Can you believe it, still Canon hasn't offered any solution for 10.8.x . I used your guide and installed the Selphy CP-810 just now and it works. Canon's support blows big time

I was so excited to find your blog because I photoshop quits on me when I try to print with canon selphy 760 on 10.8. I followed your instructions but when I try to open the package previously copied on my desktop, it won't open...
