Have you tried resetting your phone by holding the 'home' button and 'power' button togther for about 20 seconds until the apple logo appears?

Switching it off is not the same as doing a forced restart as was suggested above. Did you hold down on both buttons until the Apple logo appeared on the screen? Do you see anything on the screen at all or is it totally black?

What do you mean when you say you can't "open" it? What, exactly, happens? Are you getting an error message? What does it say?
