Or is there an extension providing a RSS reader?

I just released an RSS feed reader that is integrated with Mountain Lion's new notifications. Instead of checking some RSS reader all day, just sit back and wait for notifications. You can download it from: http://www.etresoft.com/etrefeed

Unfortunately, Apple is way behind on reviewing apps in the Mac App Store. I have released a time limited demo until Apple gets caught up.

There is no extension that I know of. There are many RSS readers; for example, a free one called "Vienna" and a paid or ad-supported one called "NetNewsReader." You also have the option of using a hosted RSS aggregrator such as Google Reader, which eliminates the problem of synchronizing devices, but has privacy implications that you may not like. I host a Web-based aggregator called "Tiny Tiny RSS" on my own server, but setting that up is too difficult for most users.

That was the first thing I looked for.

There are a dozen Google Reader extesions, but no plain RSS readers (I would have been hapy with that).

Apple wants you to use the RSS reader in Mail - I know, it makes no sense to me either. In Mail, you have no control over the way they are displayed.

And I'll NEVER use Google.

I'm trying to find a way to reinstall the older Safari. There is no RSS reader as easy to use as the old Safari.

And if RSS is fading away, REPLACE it with soemthing better before ripping away something good.

I loved my RSS feeds in Safari. Literally hundreds of tech sites updated automatiucally in the background. The ultimate in simplicity has now completely vanished. Many Apple's elite web wizrds should post what was disabled/removed from Mountain Lion next the the 200+ added features. This alone would have prevented my from upgrading completely. 12 years on a mac and today I officially vocalize my sadness with the company.😠

I feel the same way, Apple should have not removed a feature that have been easy to read news from websites ! Reading RSS feeds from Safari was one of the reason I stayed on Safari, guess its bye-bye Safari !

I am actually sorry I ordered an expensive MacBook Pro Retina because of this RSS takeaway. Why?
Apple should explain why they did this to us. Now you have the option to fill up your Mail with all the RSS feeds. No way. No good. Who is in charge. Wasn't the earnings miss enough? Bah.

This is a standard Apple strategy. RSS is old, stable, and boring. Apple is switching to notifications. There is a new Notifications preference pane so that web sites can send notifications directly to Safari. RSS is clunky. It takes one or two hours between updates and it uses an inefficent polling process. It is much more efficient for web sites to be able to push notifications directly to Safari. Transitions are a bit painful but things will be much better in the future.

Let's create a poll for the old and boring RSS reader feature back into Safari

Well, I'm old and boring. I thought stable was always a good thing? I looked for Notifications Preference Pane in the new Safari and saw nothing like that. Fine, push your notifications directly to Safari, but how do I do that? And I am pained right now, but the future isn't clear.

1. We all don't have Mtn Lion, so pushing news isn't an option.

2. Even if it were an option, I wouldn't want it. It would be as bad as it going to Mail, where it shows as email. News is NOT email. News is not something I must be notified intstantly in a push an interrupting my work.

3. Until there is a better option than what existed, DON'T CHANGE IT. In this case, all they did was rip it oout and didn't bother to make it better. Would a simple Safari Prefrence setting be so bad?
