Jul 26, 2012 7:49 AM in response to hyndmanby Screaming.Pict,Alphamike- there's very few people with this problem, so waiting for Apple to fix this isn't going to help you.
Hyndman is asking what ISP you are using because we are pretty sure this is NOT an Apple issue- almost everyone with this problem has been using BT (specifically BT business broadband) as their ISP. It seems likely that BT have a caching server that has somehow picked up a corrupted version of the download and has not yet timed it out.
The solutions/workarounds to this have been posted several times in this thread. I won't repeat them, just read up.

Jul 26, 2012 2:54 PM in response to Screaming.Pictby vic in colo,Just a note: I am in Colorado (ISP: Century Link) and I had the same problem with getting stuck at 53.25mb. Downloading the VPN program got me past the hang-up. So, it's not just BT with the issue.

Jul 26, 2012 4:29 PM in response to diverterby HeloCaptain,My download effort stalled, though much closer to the end of the download.
I have access to only one ISP at my home (I will not use iPhone tethering via the AT&T 3G network for such a large download). I have a Netgear N900 wireless router, which offers both 2.4 and 5.0 WiFi bands. My initial download was via the 5.0 band. When I couldn't get any of my other efforts to work, I switched to the 2.4 band and the download resumed immediately and completed without any difficulty.
The subsequent install was trouble free.

Jul 26, 2012 8:58 PM in response to diverterby Ghost Fire,Okay here's what I did when this happened to me. I opened up Launchpad where the Mountain Lion Icon was created. I deleted it from there. Then I went to the AppStore and deleted it off of my purchased tab. Then I went back like I was going to buy it and I clicked buy again and it said "You have already purchased this item, press OK to download for free." I clicked OK and then it started downloading. Hopefully this will help all of you.

Jul 26, 2012 10:02 PM in response to diverterby Raynner,I think apple purposely prioritised us customer by blocking IP from outside us. Using hotspot shield u get us IP address hence u can download it..just my thought. If its true then its highly irresponsible of them.might as well just launch it in us.

Jul 27, 2012 1:44 AM in response to hyndmanby mrjosereyes,I have the identical problem, stuck on 53.25mb. Has yours moved on since?
-
Jul 27, 2012 1:51 AM in response to mrjosereyesby Raynner,I use hotspot shield and manage to continue download up to 2gb. Then my download completed. When I tried to run the instalation I get corrupted error.. I guess if I leave hotspot shield i might be able to complete it up to 4gb. I'm getting suspicious alert from google that hotspot shield tried to access my gmail..so abit worried..

It took me just over an hour to get through the whole process of download and install.

Jul 28, 2012 12:30 PM in response to diverterby SimonStahn,Ok, I'm with BT Business Broadband (on an Infinity product, so should be very quick) and my download stuck at 53.25MB... tried various things, including changing the MTU on the ethernet connection, the usual del-restart download, etc. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.
Then I disconnected the ethernet (ie BT Broadband) and used the wifi connection on my Mac Pro to connect via my iPad's 3G (set up a personal hotspot) and the download carried on past the 53.25MB mark.
After it hit 60MB I turned off my wifi and let the download carry on, via the ethernet (so back to BT). It worked. A few minutes later (ie now) it's at 181MB and counting... so no guarantees that it isn't corrupt or anything but so far App Store hasn't complained.
Just thought I'd share that here for all the other BT Broadband users - just use a few MB of our iphone/ipad or even mifi allowance is all you seem to need to get over the 'hump' at 53.25MB. What a PITA! :-(
I'll report back if this works / doesn't - ie if it turns out corrupt or something. Currently I have about 1hr 11mins remaining on the download (while typing it's up to 315MB so I have some hope this will actually work!).
Good luck to all.
PS - note that you either need to disconnect the ethernet cable(s) on your Mac or change your binding order (in network settings) if you want to leave things connected.
