Aug 15, 2012 3:54 AM in response to jt519by jt519,So after shutting the lid at around 88% and leaving for work, when I get home it had dropped to about 70%. With the lid closed and nothing but maybe safari running. This is an older-ish Macbook Pro so doesn't have the Power Nap thing available. I sat and used it for maybe an hour, hour and a half and it drained the battery completely. I see others reporting that the fans are running like crazy and their machines are getting hot, I'm not seeing that, thankfully. The fans don't run abnormally fast, and the heat is about what it was pre-Mountain Lion. But something is draining the battery....even when the machine is asleep.

AFAIK no one has reported that disabling Notification Center will return battery use to pre-Mountain Lion status. Doing so has improved things for me and others, however full-charge is still less than what it used to be and battery depletion is still higher.
Just didn't want anyone to expect things to return to "normal" by simply disabling Notifications.

Aug 15, 2012 7:53 AM in response to richsadamsby tarpus,How close is Apple to finding a fix? I am watching the battery percentage fast drain as I write this (~ 1%/ minute).

No word...just that they're working on it. Historically things like this have been resolved in a few days, other times it's take a month or so. To date they've always been able to take care of these kinds of issues though. So time will only tell, hopefully soon!

Aug 15, 2012 8:21 AM in response to richsadamsby dean_55,Can someone direct me to a resource that describes how to revert back to Lion while this thing gets resolved? I use Time Machine with a Time Capsule. The recovery menu, Command-R, on startup only allows me to reinstall the Mountain Lion OS.
I like Mountain Lion, it works well with my IMac, but it creates a problem with my MacbooK Air. I need to get back to the great battery life I had before.

Aug 15, 2012 8:28 AM in response to dean_55by GWO123,Probably the only way is to burn a Lion image on a DVD or put it on a USB stick and install it from there.

Aug 15, 2012 8:43 AM in response to richsadamsby transcender,Has APPLE even ACKNOWLEDGED that or is that just pure Speculation?
Is this just limited to any machines? Macbook Airs? 13" models?

Aug 15, 2012 9:10 AM in response to jpengland96by soilsenasuil,Earlier I stated improvement with 'repairing disk permissions' but I am now back to lousy batttery life with loss of 10% battery in 20 minutes while simply surfing the net. So I guess we will hope for a apple solution.

Aug 15, 2012 9:23 AM in response to dean_55by clerenlas,dean_55 - I reverted to Lion on my 2011 MBA by restoring from Time Machine backup. I followed these instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4340?viewlocale=en_US . I was however using an external USB drive for backup; I don't know whether the procedure would work using Time Capsule.

Before creating a post it's always best to read at least some of the thread first.
As mentioned earlier a number of us have been contacted by Apple directly regarding the battery issue. They've been gathering diagnostic information for a while now so it's clear that they're aware of the situation and that they're working to resolve it.
It's apparently an issue with a number of MacBook models.
If you're looking for a press release about it, that's generally not how Apple operates.
Hang in there!
