Aug 16, 2012 3:50 AM in response to realMacMarkby Qwerty0001,mid 2010 mbp 13 - I tried the SMC reset and the PRC reset. Neither improved my batter. I'm also noticing my batter never get's to 100% charge either. I've run my batter down a couple of times also, hoping a complete depletion would help. Does not help.

Aug 16, 2012 5:32 AM in response to jpengland96by Chris-UK,Nothing working for me:
- SMC Reset Twice
- Drained battery/recharged Twice
- Reinstalled ML
- Fixed permissions
- Reset Dock
- Disabled Notifications
- Removed Notification from menu bar
- Minimised iCloud use
- Turned off Time Machine
- Turned off keyboard light
- Activity Monitor no process generally over 6-7%
- Rebooted many times
- System fully up to date
- Machine hot on battery not hot on power which is odd
- No fan noise its not spinning mad which is good
Still got good battery: Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 4820 and running with SSD so no drive spinning!
Used to charge to 100% now only 99%
Drained from 99% to 83% in 30 mins with 10 apps open (not active other than Mail/Chrome)
3 Hours if I am lucky vs 7+ (with SSD)
Am noticing in system log that sandboxd is having read/write errors on com.apple.quicklook.satellite but not many.
Also noticing my memory keeps getting used up and using MemoryFreer to clean it up every so often - something is using it but not obvious in Activity Monitor. 1.3Gb RAM was used while typing this that I had to free!
Sent stuff back to Apple - heard nothing for a week now - chased them and no reply to numerous emails. Took the data and ran.....

Aug 16, 2012 5:39 AM in response to jpengland96by adi190,Just spoke to Apple. They were cute enough to confirm that Apple is looking into two issues, battery life and extreme slowing of machines and will come out with an update soon. looking forward.

Aug 16, 2012 6:02 AM in response to adi190by g8production,Dear Apple, here the survey report http://obsurvey.com/r.aspx?id=20BEBAE4-73B6-4405-BEE8-2BCAB3DC1FD3 about the battery drain.
I hope this will help you.

Aug 16, 2012 5:59 AM in response to jpengland96by neocicak,I'm wondering if ML has done permanent damage to the battery. I have mid 2012 MBP 13", and when I do a full system reports, here is the statistic that I have:
Charge Information:
Charge Remaining (mAh): 1140
Fully Charged: No
Charging: Yes
Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 5431
Health Information:
Cycle Count: 12
Condition: Normal
Battery Installed: Yes
Amperage (mA): 2760
Voltage (mV): 11916
Any other MBP 13" 2012 owners in this forum who can give the stats? I'm particularly interested in the full charge capacity.
Thanks in advance!

Aug 16, 2012 6:17 AM in response to neocicakby CH_BO,MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2012 2.9GHz comes with 10.7. I used a 10.6 TM Backup to set the system up. At the same day I updated to 10.8.
I don't know how was the battery life was with 10.7, but with 10.8 it's 5 to 6 hours. But in sleep mode the MacBook needs 7% for 10 hours when battery is full. Another time battery was at 26% I switched the MacBook to sleep. After 18 hours the battery was empty.
The other thing is that the battery health is fallen from 100% to 93% after 4 cycles.
No iCloud in use all the time.

Aug 16, 2012 7:44 AM in response to transcenderby Beisarius,Beware of using machines always plugged. It is contrary to apple's principles of lithium battery life maintenance (Apple's site), and general physics/electrical engineering : http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/charging_lithium_ion_batteries
So if you have a MBA for a year, with 45 cycles (as an earlier post) and state leaving it plugged, the battery should no longer perform after deciding to test it. It has been conditioned to work on parasitic load and not cycle at all. Yes, ML may be a drain but even had you unplugged that machine in Lion, after a year, you would have noticed a drop in life health. however, dropping 30% in a few cycles on a new battery is also what some ML owners with new machines have experienced. So Apple replacing batteries with <200 cycles and <80% health is a curtesy as in some cases, batteries were not maintained properly. For example, they are shipped with a 50% charge for a reason (see link). Why would someone elect to have it 100% all the time and reduce its life expectancy the moment you unplug it?
Does a fast drain kill batteries? Yes according to electrical engineers. The faster it drains, combined with the SMC and Apple's battery chip, the faster it will die. Theory in the link. Browse the webpage. Apple should adress the issue but by the time a fix will come, some people's batteries will have been damaged.
Am receiving shortly my new MBA and first thing I will do is install Lion. Sorry, Mountain Lion reminds me of Windows Vista. Both have 12 letters as well. Too much troubleshooting for a supposedly great OS.
On an older MBP (2010) machine I felt experimenting, did a clean install of Lion, had the geniuses replace the battery mauled by lion, paid the full cost for the retail battery, did PRAM/SMC. Battery levels shot above 4 hours. Tested, tested, it also is consistent in sleep and general usage. It actually seems to push to 4:30 as it learned the system. So it appears the previous battery I used was indeed so mauled by Lion (down to 80% in just a few cycles) that it was also erratic when in Lion. So Lion + new battery seem to work. Hence my reformatting the new MBA upon its arrival.

Aug 16, 2012 8:06 AM in response to jpengland96by jla12087,Does anyone know if 10.8.1 will actually address the battery issue? I think it's possible that we're all damaging our batteries because of ML.

Aug 16, 2012 8:40 AM in response to Chris-UKby cheers123,Currently, I stick with Lion, because once I had bad experience with Apple ignoring problems caused by their software updates. If you think this thread is long enough and affecting enough users for Apple to pay attention, consider these 133+16 page threads about SATA problem on Mid-2009 MBP that was never officially recognized nor fixed:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2054387
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2267098
At that time Apple's position was that 3rd party HDD upgrade is an option and not officially supported, so if you got problem, it's your own fault. Today the situation is different, because it involves out-of-the-box functionality, so let's hope for a quick fix coming soon...
But c'mon, Apple, you're so proud to have so little hardware models to test them well and make sure everything works and polished; how about your famous hardware+software integration?
Why should I check internet forums before upgrading, whether there are known bugs in new OS, like if I were upgrading to new Ubuntu release on a noname netbook?

Aug 16, 2012 9:24 AM in response to cheers123by Qwerty0001,Very good point... I may drop back. This battery issue is really bad. need my battery life back. It's more important than notifications and iMessage.. oh, please put the iMessage beta back out there so I can roll back to lion. All the other features I can live without until the battery issue resolved. Perhaps if this goes mainstream media they will do something about it.

Aug 16, 2012 10:05 AM in response to Qwerty0001by S.J. McCue,I can say Mt. Lion is a battery killer, it was bad enough under Lion. My Mid 2010 MBP was purchased May 2011. Original battery capacity was 5770MAh, now it's down to 4542MAh. According to Apple's claim the battery should retain 80% of it's charge after 1000 cycles, I have only done 113. I have since gone back to Snow Leopard and have some stable environemnt for now. So explaining the battery will be intriguing as I go to the Apple Store. I wish everyone luck and ope 10.8.1 would help solve this.
