Q: Battery life dropped considerably on Mountain Lion.

I upgraded to mountail Lion and now my battery life is about half of what it was before upgrading. Shouldn't the update improve battery life? Also, what can I do about this?

    Just installed it :O)

Not much of a major difference for me - was getting 3-3.5 hours with it saying 3-4 hours. Currently its saying 4.5-5.5 hours so maybe a little better, but it used to be north of 6-7 hours pre ML and I would get north of 5 easily.

Ill run it a while and see. Dropped from 100% to 97% typing this reply! with no major activity (I let it settle down before removing the mag power).

Initially looks like its slightly better but not a lot compared to where it used to be. Probably need to give it some time to measure effectively. Has improved though from 10.8.0

No difference for me either. Went from 8 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes.

    From the release notes:

The update includes a number of fixes:

    • Resolve an issue that may cause Migration Assistant to unexpectedly quit
    • Improve compatibility when connecting to a Microsoft Exchange server in Mail
    • Address an issue playing audio through a Thunderbolt display
    • Resolve an issue that could prevent iMessages from being sent
    • Address an issue that could cause the system to become unresponsive when using Pinyin input
    • Resolve an issue when connecting to SMB servers with long names
    • Address a issue that may prevent Safari from launching when using a Proxy Automatic Configuration (PAC) file
    • Improve 802.1X authentication with Active Directory credentials

Nothing about battery drain. Sure it could be in there, but one would think such a major issue would be noted.

2 full screen (=FS) safarie (±10 tabs each)

Just installed. Not much difference here either. Time Remaning started at 4:12 and dropped to 3:52 right away, now climbed back up to 4:02 while typing this. Used to be 2:30 - 3:00 before this upgrade. Used to be 7:00 - 8:00 before ML !

I've reinstalled my desktop preferences file and reactivated Notification Center (disabled both previously to gain some battery life) and am going to run my late 2010 MacBook Air down to zero and fully charge it again before updating to 10.8.1 and see how it goes.  It shouldn't take long...current reading is 1:14 23% so a couple of videos with 100% screen brightness ought to do it.

    Installed 10.8.1

No imrprovement. Full charge has infact dropped to about 2.5 hours :O

    Battery health still says "Service".
Dropped to 55% from 58% yesterday at only 178 cycles.
Keeps hovering a percent up and down.

Apple, you're a great company. But WHAT is happening??

Sorry, but not happy at all.

It's reallly disappointing that ML has caused battery drain problem on my new Macbook Air 13"! This morning, again, for the third time within a month, I woke up with a completed drained laptop (fully charged the night before and left it in sleep mode). Associated with this is the heat, which was generated while the battery drained overnight in my bag. I didn't leave anything running, apart from the opened safari, mail, and Papers2. I couldn't see how it can happen, since I usually leave the macbook to sleep with the same applications opened in the background and the battery only drained on 3 occasions. Weird.

Just updated to 10.8.1. Not sure if this issue has been fixed though.

Just installed 10.8.1 on mid-2010 MBP.  Was down to 3:30 hrs on 10.8.0, and little or no change by upgrading to 10.8.1....

Wow... That crazy leeky7. I feel your pain with a full charge new MBA 13" and got drained completely when you're asleep. What's happening with Apple nowadays...

Anyways, just updated to 10.8.1. Restart my MacBook. And.... nothing seems affected within the battery drain problems.

    *sigh*

This could be Apples worst OS yet - lets hope iOS6 does not also screw up my iPad and iPhone otherwise its time for alternatives. Battery life is a critical decision maker these days for ANY portable device. Can have all the greatness ever, but if it dies on you quicker than the others then what use is it - this is why I ditched Blackberry.

My MacBook Pro is becoming a Desktop Pro at this point. < 2hr's of battery. I keep it charged at all times so i don't damage the battery by charging and uncharghing few times a day. Way to go Apple, you just made my computer trash!

Btw, has anyone tried the battery via Bootcamp. How many hours do you guys get in Win OS
