Sep 2, 2012 3:58 AM in response to jpengland96by ApocalyArts,Since the recovery HD will only restore 10.8, I got an 10.7 Lion DMG image from the internets, burned it on dvd and bootet with my external disc drive attached but as soon as I am booting from the cd, I just get some kind of stop / forbidden sign and the mba reboots a few moments later.
Can anyone give me some advice how to go back to 10.7? There has to be a way, since my MBA came with OS X 10.7 out of the box...

Sep 2, 2012 7:47 AM in response to ApocalyArtsby putnik,If you can boot from Internet Recovery (not Recovery Partition) it will bring the computer back to it's original OS. However you need to have an external backup, either a clone or Time Machine, to transfer your own data and apps.

if it remains constant, it is good. but if health drops below 80% in less then 200 cycles, then not good. Is it an original Apple?

You are in a good position. First, you paid more than the entry level price for your MBP due to the i-7. As such, it should work. So the whole 10.6 to 10.7 sounds like the Illiad. I would:
- Call Apple, request a senior advisor, open a case, politely telling them your machine is affected by the battery drain issue. Higher ups will know.
- Do as they recommend- be it a clean ML install.
- Let the problem continue. Like cirr, call again, and also log it in an excel sheet. Mind you, they also keep track of a specific case. tell them if not solved..
- They will replace the battery. problem solved... OR not... then
- They will replace your MBP... So new machine.
Going back to Lion just to work around an issue bugging your machine is like hiding the problem, yet it still is there. you paid good $ for Apple Care ($270?) precisely for such situations.. Your machine will still have the bug whether you run 10.6 or Lion...
So asking for replacement is your own best suggestions. BUT, I would go through technical support and use Apple Care. Might take you a few phone calls but here is my math: might take you many many hours to do al sorts of installs, but 4 10 min Apple calls might just get you a new machine. true, you will end up going at a genius bar, but it is a small price to pay to replace a MBP with an issue.
So my main argument, if you got Apple Care, why go fiddle with previous OSes? your MBP should be running ML beautifully and even Apple tech will tell you that.
I obviously sympathize with 2010/2011 owners that do not have warranty, but even in their case, should they try the steps, they might be very very pleasantly surprised. No charge for the calls... And, on top of that, these 4 years I learned that Apple replies to politeness and persistence with very very generous solutions that I encountered nowhere else. Care, sympathy and consideration are downright in their own manual:

So those who read between my lines - am cryptic for a few good reasons - will probable find a very nice solution to this issue.

Sep 2, 2012 9:00 AM in response to Beisariusby gianluca c,thank you for your advice, next weekend i'll do this. unfortunately i don't have much time weekdays but i try to do a couple of phonecalls. in case i can't i'll directly to the genius bar.
i'm not an computer engineer, so i'm not that clever in these arguments, that's why i love mac also.
as apple user everything has gone smooth always, so i'm not trained in solving apple issues, i always thought they doesn't exists..
anyway, i would like to add the image of my battery situation. but i did several screenshots, but nothing appear in the folder of my images as usual, does someone knows why?
it's weird..
anyway, i just unplug the recharger, turn on the mac, check the battery health, shots several times (4/5 times) the desktop (unsuccessfully) and wrote this post: current charge 87,5% from 100% (in 10 minutes). i definetely need to go to genius bar and ask for informations..

Sep 2, 2012 9:42 AM in response to Apocryphaby putnik,DiskMaker is using the InstallESD.dmg file from the installer package contents and omits various files needed for registration purposes. It is better to make a bootable clone of your system using Carbon Copy Cloner or similar, and put the full installer on it (copy it before running it, or it will disappear). This way you also have your data and apps backed up. From the external you can do full disk checks and an erase/install, and transfer your user account data and apps.
Using Recovery Partition to install a fresh copy of ML may get you up and running. Hold the Opt key at power on and chose it from the startup items.

Sep 2, 2012 9:46 AM in response to gianluca cby putnik,Maybe you can find the screenshots using a Spotlight search for "screenshot" or suchlike.
You can change the format and location with these Terminal commands:
SCREENCAPTURE FORMAT
defaults write com.apple.screencapture type XXX (png, jpg etc)
defaults write com.apple.screencapture location /users/username/Documents/etc

Sep 2, 2012 1:22 PM in response to gianluca cby Beisarius,Hey gianluca,
if your unit is heating up as you describe, and drains as fast as you indicate, you have two options:
- get the unit replace using the apropriate Apple Tech steps. Whether it gets hot or not, kills the battery or not, that will not matter when you receive a replacement
- or revert to Lion, but your unit will still have the same issues, and they will resurface down the road.
For temperature, Watts, Battery Health app or iStat can capture some descent stats.

Sep 2, 2012 3:56 PM in response to S.J. McCueby Jimmy Kats,I too have resorted back to Lion, I had absolutely no choice but to go back a version. this is an evolving issue in between OS's, and until Apple "replicates" the problem, we are all sitting ducks...
