Q: Battery life dropped considerably on Mountain Lion.

I followed your instructions and ... it seems to work so far. I will use this setting for some days and than I will turn things on step by step until I can identify the problem.

Its funny, because the notification center was one of the big selling points of Mountain Lion.

I am still a computer science student, but almost finished. I made several interships/jobs and if I f*** up the customers usally called me and had to fix it as sone as possible. And thats how it goes. They can expect that it works and they do not started thanking me for taking care of the their (my) problem.

I have a 2011 MacBook Pro that I did a CLEAN install of Mountain Lion on and have experienced the same battery issues as everytone else on here.

I have tried all the options I could find on here to no avail. Some of the procedures seemed to improve it for a while but it always returns to charging to a maximum of 97% and once unplugged, shows it will last approximately 3 hours.

I finally did a zero pass and wiped my drive, reinstalled Lion (not Mountain Lion) and I'm now showing 6:47 minutes left......

I'll try the upgrade once Apple corrects this.

     I've bought the Momentus XT 500GB 7200rpm drive for my macbook and unfortunately the drive consumes a lot of power and gets very, very, very hot. If you put your orignal HD back in the machine you'll see your battery life will go back up and last much longer.

     I switched it for a SSD instead (OCZ Agility 3), they're expensive but the speed is way faster than the Seagate Momentus and it has helped the the battery life too. It was a trade off because I wanted the extra drive space, but in the end the speed and battery life were far more imporant to me. I now use the Mometus as an external backup HD for the Macbook that I attach sparingly.

I'm having the same issue with very poor battery life on my 13' Mid 2009 MBP and 15" Mid 2010 MBP.  Just turned it on and battery was at 44% with in 5 minutes it's now at 36%!  Some one please advise if you have found a resolution to this issue.

my macbook pro mid 2010 is having is problem.
now can't start up without adaptor but the battery indicatior light show fully charged.

I have the same drive and it's not the problem being discussed here. Using it with Lion is no problem at all.... However on Mountain Lion my battery life is cut in half... it's not the drive.

my MBA (i7,1.8ghz,4GB) is a mid 2011 one. after putting mountain lion on, 1.the fan went wild, 2.battery drained like a friday night beer. apple, this is woeful. ical/calender has been indexing/adding dates so that for example, a friends birthday is in there 100 times, not the once i've put in. WORK AROUND: 1. disable sync in outlook GO outlook-preferences-sync, and disable all options (CLICK all options off), 2. disable calender sync GO calender-preferences-accounts,and CLICK disable, 3. disable sync in contacts GO contacts-accounts-CLICK off. This has stopped my MBA being a hot brick. Try looking in activity monitor, with ALL PROCESSES showing - before my work around, these processes in bold underneath were thrashing my MBA: My MBA went crazy when "ical external sync" started. anyway i hope this helps. i bet when apple gets its act together the patch will have something to do with applications syncing. not happy, apple.

me again, the work around i used in kiwituatara was after reinstalling mountain lion, and after resetting SMC and after resetting PRAM. try looking in activity monitor - some processes wont stop when i kill them they come back after a minute. try disabling the sync apsects of the applications signalled by activity monitor that are killing your mac....until the fix comes through, my MBA cant use the very features i wanted with mountain lion ....

I had the same problems. Reinstall, resetting PRAM and so on... did not fixed it.

Yesterday i go back to lion. Apple nice try but mountain lion is not ready yet. It's like a beta. please fix it.

Slowly i think apple had learnt by microsoft. ;-)

But the time machine works fine. This let hope. :-)

Me too - I thought I was losing my mind but a significant drop in battery life on my 2011 macbook pro 13". 7% drop in the past 10 minutes reading some of these posts. I used to go almost all day with sleep mode enabled etc. I'm a teacher and use my computer all day. I would only have to charge at night. Now about every 2.5-3 hours I think. What a difference. So how do you go back to Lion? Not worth the upgrade  in my opinion. Battery life is way more important than the new features in my books.

But now, people are saying that Lion works great, and that upgrading to Mountain Lion has caused problems.

What irony...
