Q: Battery life dropped considerably on Mountain Lion.

I upgraded to mountail Lion and now my battery life is about half of what it was before upgrading. Shouldn't the update improve battery life? Also, what can I do about this?

I am having the same issues with my Macbook Air (Summer 2011 model).  After upgrading to Mountain Lion my battery life has gone down considerably.  I hope a fix is soon.

i have noticed the same problem! also the computer (the battery, i guess) incredibly overheats and it didn't happen with the previous lion os.

then i noticed another bug about the world clock: it cannot be changed. everytime you create one, it doesn't show the city, am/pm, and the "i" that allows to turn it and modify it.

i hope all this will be fixed as is very disappointing. i say this as a great apple fan and supporter!

Good grief! This thread is reaching Biblical proportions!! Not to mention that all the tech news outlets have picked up the issue and are now putting pressure on getting it solved.

But rest assured that the "wheels of justice" are turning and salvation may soon be at hand. I'm sure all seed testers will be extra vigilant this time to really squash the bug.

I have a 2012 Macbook Air (13" i7 8gb or ram), My battery went from being able to play Flash videos for seven hours, to barely lasting two hours with minimal load. Hoping an update will come soon! In the mean time im, leaving it plugged 24/7 to minimise the battery cycles im buring through!

does leave the mac plugged 24/7 help to not ruin the batteries?

As long as you do not run the battery below 20% (approx) on a regular basis you are fine, plug it when whenever you can but once or twice a month let it discharge to about 50%

Same issue with 2011 MBA 1.6 GHz Core i5. The upgrade is killing my battery life. Yesterday left the office at 1:15, in sleep mode, opened it today at 3:45PM and the battery was at 76%.

Agree with everyone else - hope a fix comes soon.

same deal...my battery life dropped from 6 hrs to 3 hrs after the update. I also installed a 256GB m4 SSD at the same time, so I didn't attribute the drop in battery life to the OS update until I stumbled upon this thread. Errr...Apple should do better than this.

I have just sent a system report to Apple.

So far, I have not seen the problem with battery drain. Did another test yesterday and got 6hrs and 20 minutes running on battery. Battery was 100%.

    This is the system:

    Model Name:          MacBook Pro

      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro9,1

      Processor Name:          Intel Core i7

      Processor Speed:          2.6 GHz

      Number of Processors:          1

      Total Number of Cores:          4

L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB

      L3 Cache:          6 MB

      Memory:          8 GB

    HiRes glossy screen.

Used the mouse via Blue Tooth, Screen brightness 50%, did websurfing, emails etc. whilst on battery.

Got 6.20Hrs and had 8% left. Forgot that I had scheduled CCC for 11.00 AM so that went as

    well on battery.

Sent my system report to Apple to assist them and all others affected because I believe I

DO NOT HAVE THE PROBLEM others are having and maybe it may help.

When upgrading to ML last week, I did a clean install.

Message to APPLE: If you need more info on a system that works fine with Mountain Lion and does not have the battery draining issue then don't hesitate to call.

yes the new operating system mountian lion have some glinch in it.you know what when it says that it works when its sleep don't you think processor is working as well as mother board ,yes they do work but no one from apple told you this that they work and consume your battery.so battery will obviously reduce,

ok let me open my self here.

what apple techi did with this software tht they had inserted a command in the software which conveys message to system when lid is going to close use only 2 or 5 % of battery if owner gets an email or a message or else.

its like a car is getting on reserve power.

so it will consume battery and they always say battery life is upto .mark these words UPTO...7 hours life

but honestly its 3 or less. but i tell you mac laptops are far good then crap windows laptops and pcs.

    so apple is apple.

    adios

Yeah its definately an issue. i am currently at 97% battery yet only have 3 hours left. Its going at about 1% every 2-3 minutes. I sent my system report to apple. I hope this gets fixed soon. I may just give up and carry around the powercord everywhere i go.

Also, i got very excited when my macbook prompted me to download the newest verison of the OS software. It ended up being just an update to the HP printer drivers.

    Lame.
