Aug 10, 2012 9:16 AM in response to ash_h89by Ulf1103,not at all...
I think there was somebody else reporting that his rMBP did lose a lot of battery when it was sleeping.
(note, I've got a 2.6GHz i7, I think the other person had the 2.3GH configuration)But, my batterie life when I'm using my RMBP (like browsing and reading mail) is only 2-3 (and occasionally 4) hours.

Aug 10, 2012 9:22 AM in response to Ulf1103by ash_h89,Okie dokie. I think I'm just going to rely on Apple to patch this issue. They have before. After 56 pages.....I'm going to not worry about it until there is no patch for it.
Here's to hoping: http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/12/08/09/os_x_mountain_lion_may_be_degradin g_battery_life_test_shows.html

Aug 10, 2012 9:24 AM in response to Ulf1103by dark_sat,@Ulf1103,
I believe that those who lost a lot of battery during sleep was when the computer was unplugged from the magsafe. Mine also loses about 1% while sleeping at night, when plugged in.

Aug 10, 2012 9:27 AM in response to ash_h89by Ulf1103,What I've found odd is that: (even when only relying and using the HD4000 using gfxCardStatus)
The GPU's temperature always was higher than the CPU's temp.
like 10 ºC
you someone else check on this to?
check it by watching iStat pro or Hardware monitor... -
Aug 10, 2012 9:30 AM in response to dark_satby Ulf1103,I leave my rMBP also unplugged at night.
I let it sleep by closing the lid,
then I unplug it.
(note: I even enabled Power Nap while on batterie)

Aug 10, 2012 9:40 AM in response to jpengland96by contentedbloke,I have a 2010 Unibody Macbook Pro (core2duo) and am seeing massive battery drain after upgrading to Mountain Lion from Snow Leapord. I'm losing around 1% of battery every 3-4 minutes with the following settings:
- Screen brightness at lowest setting (next to blank screen)
- wifi browsing with firefox and chrome
- no other apps running
At this rate, I will not even last 5 hours. And when the macbookpro is sleeping at night after a full day's charge, the battery shows 92% the next morning - 8% reduction in 10 hours. And that's after disabling imessages, safari, mail client (which I never use) etc. I don't understand what Mountain Lion has done to my system. Looking for a patch soon....

Aug 10, 2012 9:47 AM in response to contentedblokeby tornadothrasher,I went away on vacation last Thursday and my computer was shut off for the week. I got back yesterday and I had to have it plugged in to turn it on (as just pressing the power button did not work) and it had 4%. It was shut off!
I got Mountain Lion the day it came out and just tried the SMC reset, PRAM reset, and repaired permissions, and it still seems to be an issue.
EDIT: I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro 15" - 2.2 i7 with 8 GB of RAM - got it May 2011.

Aug 10, 2012 10:00 AM in response to jpengland96by Gateway69,Yea I have also noticed huge drains in battery life, the first time I saw it is when plugging in my usb portable hd (non powered), its usb2 so takes up to 500ma I think when in use and should be much more less when idle. But a full chage of 8hours, plugging in the drive, takes it down to about 3 1/2 hours..

Aug 10, 2012 10:41 AM in response to jpengland96by rexowens,I upgraded to Mountain Lion and now on my MacBook Air I can barely get 3 hours out of a full charge. Before I was able to get at least 6 hours of airtime. Can I go back to the old operating system?
-
Aug 10, 2012 11:54 AM in response to rexowensby Beisarius,Most certainly not! I tried two separate changes that lost me two full days: Downgrade to Snow Leopard and Lion. The problems were as evident in the other versions, albeit less. But other surfaced. For example, some applications (iMail) WOULD NOT WORK if you downgrade and move applications.. Sleep/loss of network way worse on Lion. Battery problems? Still here! Essentially, it is a firmware/hardware problem as well. The way the processor works, voltages, chipset, it all altered once you upgraded to ML. No way back. may seem so for an hour- but then- back to drainage, Going down will just make you loose time, and fonctionality.
JUST CALL APPLE AND COMPLAIN if still under warranty. two three times. Also, if the battery dies because of ML: NO PROBLEM: take it back to Apple for warranty replacement. Use your battery. I think mine lost 20 % health in 5 cycles. You are good untill 200

Aug 10, 2012 11:51 AM in response to jpengland96by bpeach,My new Macbook Pro Retina went from lasting around 6:33 minutes on a full charge to lasting less than five with continuous use. This may be a result of the increase in the number background processes running, but this impact is certainly tangible.

Aug 10, 2012 11:53 AM in response to bpeachby Beisarius,Umm, and wait till you actually count it. You will find out that it SAYS 5 hours, but in usage it will drop at almost an exponential rate. Battery will die, and die faster and faster with each cycle. Time displayed will not be the actual countdown.

Aug 10, 2012 12:05 PM in response to Beisariusby bewmIES,Data point: just disabled notification center (new rMBP) and after about one hour of rather light usage (Chrome, Mail, Messages, Twitter, Terminal) and brightnes on 70%-ish, I'm already down to 85%. That would indiciate about 6h of battery: less than advertised, but not that bad.
Going to run the rest of the day like this (been to scared to take it off power) and see what it actually yeilds. iStat is showing 5:53 remaining.
My $.02.

Aug 10, 2012 12:07 PM in response to jpengland96by B4ore,I have a Mid 2011 MBP with ML on it with all the same symptoms everyone else is having. Even with Lion I noticed a reduction in battery life and heat, but ML takes the cake. My biggest concern is, what are the long term effects these issues (including excessive heat and battery draw) is this going to have on my Expensive MPB?? Is this damaging my motherboard, CPU, Memory, Hard drive, and Battery? And what is Apple going to do for those of us that are having these issues? Give us new machines? Replace components that could be damaged from all these issues, or is it even worth it at this point to replace any components, and just replace as a whole? Anyone care to chime in on this? Granted I have the AppleCare but maybe Apple needs to extend those as a courtesy to cover any unforseen issues cropping up from overheating and overdrawing power. I'm a bit concerned on my end.....is anyone else?
