Battery life ~7 hours UNTIL mountain lion upgrade. With mountain lion it has been under 4 hours, at best, with minimal usage (safari).
Phoned apple, they have had a few calls but apparently it is not currently elevated to a point where a fix is being worked on. PHONE APPLE, OPEN A CASE AND REPORT THE PROBLEM.
Here is my battery info in case it is of any use in identifying the cause:

Backup the ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist in your desktop (optional)
open the Terminal (you can use spotlight to find it);
digit: sudo rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
insert your password and press enter (it will remove the preferences file from your user/library/folder)
digit: killall Dock
it will restart your dock
exit form terminal

Aug 13, 2012 7:15 AM in response to jpengland96by perfectlypics,I posted earlier in this thread on my situation.
I installed ML on an early 2011 MBP. I immediately saw drastic negative effects on battery life, including "Service Battery" message, and the battery health dropping suddenly to 28%. (It would only hold 28% of a full charge.)
And when I say immediate, I mean within less than a day of the upgrade.
I went into the Apple Store over the weekend and had the battery replaced. The Genius I spoke with, while he was extremely nice and helpful, said he had NO knowledge of any battery issues with people running Mountain Lion I politely said that it seemed to be a big deal online. He said you can look for any problem about any product online and find people that are experiencing it.
I really hope that doesn't reflect official Apple policy.
In any case, if I shut down wifi, turn down backlighting to minimum, and turn off the keyboard backlight, I can get this BRAND NEW BATTERY to last 6 hours doing nothing. Any actual usage, say checking email, browsing online, working on a document, brings it way down to the 3-4 hour range. Watching a video cuts even more. (And yes, I have the app installed to switch to integrated, as opposed to discrete graphics.)
I have not turned off Notification Center (yet), although I did try the killall Dock procedure.
The new battery is warranteed, and if it shows an unnaturally fast decrease in health, I will bring it back in.
Anxiously awaiting an update, or at least a real acknoledgement of the issue....

It's an enormous graphic that Safari stops trying to download and quits and chokes Firefox and Chrome on my iMac, so nothing to do with Mountain Lion or battery life.
