Q: Where did RSS go in Safari 6???

Yikes!  Sounds like impending doom for news reader apps and their users relying soley on GR if alternatives can't be found/implemented.  Providing direct feed subscriptions still leaves the synching issue, which is surely a major reason developers chose to use GR as a backend.  So sad.

I don't know if anyone gives a crap whether it is an extension or baked in so long as the look, the feel, the functionality are as it is in Safari 5, but here's the rub, I access the same feeds on my phone, which in iOS 6 has also dumped the RSS reading functionality, which befuddles me b/c I always thought it was handled mainly by the Mac Reader server... anyway, needless to say I'm stuck with Safari 5 and iOS 5 until I can find some resolution because having reviewed every single RSS-related app I could find as of 2 weeks ago, they were all rubbish (sorry in advance to any who developed them, just my view, though I am always happy to provide consultation to developers).

i can't believe with all these billions of extra cash that apple doesn't have employees who see all these complaints. This forum constantly logging you out and not remebering what page you were on isn't very apple like either.

i'm maintaining my faith at this point but it's certainly been a rough patch lately.

We're over thinking this. It's very simple.

RSS feeds bypass the ads on websites.

It is completely irrelevant how many billions in cash they have or how RSS in Safari made the life of my blind friends incredibly easy to get the latest info on any subject. Have you ever tried to navigate a website's forest of advertising to find the miniscule article with your eyes closed?

They just don't care any more... unless you're 14 and need a unicorn icon for Instagram.

As with boyfriends, it's insanity to keep caring if they stopped caring.

Time to find the next big thing - $10 says it won't have an Apple logo.

Granted I've had to change my workflow, and would go back in a heartbeat, but this works and myapplemenu.com is also a well done aggregator of Apple news.

I also agree it's the ads, but also because of the slightly geeky way RSS works, I have been basically unsuccessful in getting others to see how useful it can be.

Agreed. After Apple dropped RSS from Safari 6 without warning (and no official explanation or apology that I've seen)... the last bit of hope I had for Apple since Jobs passed evaporated. I won't buy another new computer or consumer device from Apple until they change -- which might happen sooner than you think as their insane stock price meets reality. Will take a few years but I've ridden this roller coaster several times already (Apple III, Lisa, Newton, OS9), and can have my cake and eat it too now that Macs and iGadgets are a dime a dozen instead of the rare birds they were a few years ago. It is easy to find recent models on my local Craigslist. Picked up a used 11" MacBook Air with boku SSD and RAM on Craigslist recently for a trip to Asia and didn't pay a penny for it. Traded the former owner some sporting goods I didn't need anymore

Came across this article today and agree... the iSocial borg at Apple and Google can goof off all they want, but I'll still use RSS until something better comes along!

I'm glad to have ignored the friends who said I should switch to Google Reader when Apple dropped RSS -- and can't help but experience a little schadenfreude for those that lorded their Google > Apple attitude at the time Open formats FTW!

IMO that's a rather harsh opinion, especially without mentioning any specific reasons.

Have you tried Newsify for iOS?  It currently uses Google Reader, like most feed reader apps, but at least the developer has already acknowledged the upcoming shutdown:

not sure how much hope this provides to anyone but myself but another of my forrestal/ive canaries in the coalmine was just fixed yesterday. The mini player in iTunes 11 lost its progress bar an equally obvious omission. let's hope it's a sign that other great abandoned features will be returning soon.

Apple claims to listen to it's Users and yet a feature that you have showcased for at least 3 versions of Safari as a reason to use Safari to begin with is now gone without warning.

 

 

If anything you should have removed it from MAIL and kept it in Safari.

 

There is a 31 Page Thread on your own Forums full of people complaining about this very issue - so much for listening to your end Users / Customers taht pay Thousands of Dollars for your name brand instead of opting for a low end Windows PC that will need replacing in 6 months.

 

I'm so glad I just bought a brand new fully loaded Macbook Pro with all the trimmings and latest / greatest software just to fnd out half of the feautres I've used for years (and Apple has marketed as resaons to buy their products) have gone completely missing.

 

Reading List is not the soluble solution unless you incorporate the the featuire.  You managed to combine all-in-one solutions for the likes of iMessage for texting AND IM (for various protocols) - but RSS support in Safari was too complex and difficult for you ?

i don't think Steve would have ever approved. Was hoping it might make a comeback in Safari 7 but alas it seems my hopes have been dashed. i'm pretty sure they did it to make Safari seem/start faster (for the 2 minutes out of every hour at maximum frequecy setting it would be checking feeds). But it ***** to have to go 3rd party for something that works best as part of a browser.

Safari + RSS = best browser on the planet

Safari - RSS = any better then Chrome for PC?

Removed because RSS does not provide advertising revenue.  Probably dropped at the request of a major search engine.

when has apple ever cared about google revenue? besides i have seen plenty of ads inside of rss feeds. google still generates it own feeds aside from not supporting reader any more.

i dont think so for one it's not an open standard as far as i can tell it rellies on apple's push servers. secondly it's going to be a pain to set up from user standpoint. also notifications in generall are sort of the opposite ux from rss which is more like a dvr capturing content and then displaying it in order when you the consumer is ready for it. it's a neat feature but no replacement for rss imo. side note twitter just finally killed off rss access as well so there's another thing i wont be using as much.
