Mountain Lion AirPlay Mirroring (iMac to AppleTV) Not Working

that's really bad... I just bought ML for my mac with the primary use of displaying airplay...

and it won't ever work , I feel cheated and let down by Apple now as it wasn't made clear.

I agree, I feel cheated that I can not use this awesome function because my imac is more than 18 months old!

Apple please fix this.

I agree, what is the point of making an operating system compatible with a particular computer and then arbitrarily disabling the most meaningful features. It seems like Apple is once again forcing us to wastefully update equipment through less than honest means. Any update they have should have a clear list of what will not be relevant to you with te equipment you are using. I would not have purchased Mountail Lion if I had been aware that AirPlay would not work. And before someone tells me that I just needed to check to look and it was clear. I went so far as to make sure my graphics card was compatible. Which is really the only thing I can see being a reasonable excuse for disabling a feature such as this.

Agree. I only bought the update for the airplay display mirroring feature and apparently I can't get it because my laptop is mid 2010. What a load of horse crap. Apple - fix this. I feel like I've been ripped off.

I got my Macbook in late january 2011...but i guess I still got an 2010 edition >.<

let's hope that they bring out an addon for later versions. I mean, if they can make it run on last years machines, why not on the ones before that? (besides making extra cash from people buying new Macs...)

First time I've ever left a mesage about Apple....this should have been made clear, I would not have upgraded to MLion if had known AirPlay required max 12month old mac.

Third party apps can stream from Early 2009 MBP to PS3 via DLNA, why not to ATV2?

Feels like strongarm tactics into upgrading hardware.....v unlike Apple ethos....then again obviously not.

i cant believe it. i was waiting for ML since it was announced and now big dissapoitment. best feature of this wont work. speacially for this bought an apple tv little while ago and now i can scrap both of it. even updated my router to airport extreme. apple let me down for very first time

I, too, am outraged by this. I feel a little misled by Apple!

I have a mid 2010 iMac with AppleCare, so I decided to call apple support. The agent I spoke with was very helpful, however, he delievered some bad news: I was told you need an i5 processor or higher to run Airplay. Mac computers from mid-2010 have i3 processors, so I'm outta luck. Frotunately, however, the rep chatted with someone from the app store and refunded my purchase and allowed me to keep Mountain Lion! So, this kinda worked out, I guess....

An extra $9.99 we shouldn't have to pay, but it's a great app and proves Apple have just disabled it for older macs as a money grabbing exercise.

This is bs. I also bought the new OS and the first feature I attempt to use is screen mirroring...***. is there a hack yet???

Don't tell me this is true. Apple must be kidding. I invested the money ONLY for having Airplay running. I've been waiting for month for the feature and now I'm locked out?

This is outrageous! I even bought Apple TV only because of this feature. Btw, video streaming works well even from my 2 years old iPod touch, so I can't believe this is a hardware problem. The publicity was very unclear. I was misleaded. It would be ok if they clearly explained in which cases one could use this feature. What a shame!

Just spent 30 minutes thinking i was doing something wrong, only to find this discussion.

Disgusted this was'nt made clear before i upgraded.
