Mountain Lion AirPlay Mirroring (iMac to AppleTV) Not Working

Mountain Lion successfully installed on my iMac.

AppleTV sucessfully networked with my iMac (at least where iTunes and iPhoto are concerned.)

But AirPlay icon is NOT appearing in my menu bar. Any clues as to why this is?

In System Preferences, I've checked "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" but still nothing.

Below is a screenshot of my menu bar. Thanks in advance!

Never mind. Just realized my iMac is too old. Late 2009.

AirPlay will only work for mid 2011. 😟

This is *VERY* disappointing. Like many others, the primary reason for me purchasing the upgrade was to gain access to this feature. I also feel cheated. This is the first time I've ever been left with a VERY BAD taste in my mouth with respect to using Apple software and hardware. I find it very unlikely that there is an actual hardware limitation preventing the enablement of this feature, because iTunes on OSX 10.7.x (Lion) seemed to AirPlay movies just fine.

Very disappointed. I'm not happy with you Apple. Very disappointed.

Write a REVIEW on the APPLE AP STORE!

-----That will get immediate attention from Apple to either fix the problem or fix the problem.

**I saw another poster suggested that...good idea!

I reviewed as a 2 Star...cuz it means 'Didn't Like'. I like the OS but lack of Airplay is NOT COOL...'Didn't Like'!

And from my understanding it can be FIXED with a OS software code update.

Here's what I wrote.

A signature feature of the new OS???

...and Airplay only works with the new and new-er-est MACs!?!?!?!???

**POOR**

Don't tell me it's in the Specs. It surely isn't readily noted in any real or effective way. Certainly not near any marketing messages.

You found 2012's 'Antennae-Gate'!

SOLUTION

Refund money or simply fix the software so that Mt Lion OS encodes the H.264 on computer-side for thos lacking the chip that's part of the newest MACs.

OR BUY THE CODE from from AirParrot who sells $10 software app that enables YOUR HARDWARE to do it.

Who's with me?!? ;-]]

This is indeed very disappoited, huge let down by Apple. Just got rip off by multi biliions dollar company.

Like many other here, i purchased ML only for airplay whois cares about other crap features? and my early 2011 MacPro 2 x 2.93 processor, 16GB ram which far more supperior than an iphone or ipad and still could not do airplay.

Is there a way to sue them on misleading customer? I would love to gang up with Microsoft or sth to back fire Apple. I think nobody in apple give a **** about apple community thread.

It s time to wake them up with window 8 coming. People would switch to Apple and they could switch back to an PC.

Jesus people, if you would bother to read about what you're buying you wouldn't be disappointed. This is from the tech specs page about ML

AirPlay Mirroring

Requires a second-generation Apple TV or later. Supports the following Mac models:

iMac (Mid 2011 or newer)

Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer)

MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer)

MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer)

Very true, Mike Sombrio, but it's the marketing plan to keep people investing $2500 or more before the normal computer lifespan is over that should be the real issue. There is nothing wrong with a mid-2009 model MBP or iMac. Let people see on their own if they are happy with the performance. If they are not, that would sell more Macs, not arbitrarily turning off features from the start.
