Mountain Lion AirPlay Mirroring (iMac to AppleTV) Not Working

Mountain Lion successfully installed on my iMac.

AppleTV sucessfully networked with my iMac (at least where iTunes and iPhoto are concerned.)

But AirPlay icon is NOT appearing in my menu bar. Any clues as to why this is?

In System Preferences, I've checked "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" but still nothing.

Below is a screenshot of my menu bar. Thanks in advance!

Never mind. Just realized my iMac is too old. Late 2009.

AirPlay will only work for mid 2011. 😟

Right... we're all upset with the lack of this functionality, not with wasting $20 this morning! We need to keep the OS up to date anyway, and we could care less if 10.8 is called Cougar, Puma, or Mountain Lion. The problem with Apple is that it is NOT morral to separate their customers in two categories. If my computer is good enough to install the new OS, I should be able to use ALL of its features, not SOME of them only... And the fact that other third-party companies can actually provide this feature on my MacBook Pro, shows that this "limitation" is even more an Apple issue of disconsideration and disrespect for its custumers (unheard of when Jobs was in charge), and not a matter of technical limitations, as their tech people falsly suggest... Anyway, again, my problem with mirroring is NOT about losing $20. Apple can keep my $20 and I'll keep the rest of the features. 😟

Sad but true:

I'm a user/fan of Apple since 1992 and sadly this is the first time I feel really disappointed.

Over the years the company had it's ups and downs, but honestly it appears Apple didn’t care about the most loyal users. I’m happy with the new approach to a new devices era (iPod, iPhone and iPad), but what about us, the pro users?

Now, we are not important anymore? You can easily see the sales figures and quickly found out that desktop sales are not growing:

“Apple reports Q3 2012 results: $35B in revenue, $8.8B profit, 26M iPhones, 17M iPads, 4M Macs” (just 1M desktop Macs including iMac, Mac Mini and Mac Pro)

What about a new revolutionary iMac? We have the same model with minor improvements over 4 years!! And a quad core i5 iMac can’t do Airplay mirroring?

Change the OS and left out many users, this is certainly not Apple like.

I hope this kind of marketing mistakes stops, certainly Steve Jobs would not allow such things.
