Mountain Lion AirPlay Mirroring (iMac to AppleTV) Not Working

Mountain Lion successfully installed on my iMac.

AppleTV sucessfully networked with my iMac (at least where iTunes and iPhoto are concerned.)

But AirPlay icon is NOT appearing in my menu bar. Any clues as to why this is?

In System Preferences, I've checked "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" but still nothing.

Below is a screenshot of my menu bar. Thanks in advance!

Never mind. Just realized my iMac is too old. Late 2009.

AirPlay will only work for mid 2011. 😟

Booo Apple.

The Mountain Lion upgrade leaves many loyal apple customers with a bad taste in their mouths. One of the major features that has drawn many apple users to upgrade to Mountain Lion is the "mirroring" feature that allows computer users to display what is on their screen to a TV via apple TV2.

It turns out that not only are a limited number of machines compatible with Mountain Lion, many users are upset that even after downloading Mountain Lion this key feature does not work on their specific device.

Very deceptive advertising by Apple. Many loyal Apple fans will be giving serious consideration to viable competitive devices. Many have their eye on Window8 and wp8. I myself am very anxious to see what MS and Nokia can deliver. I am ready to ditch my iphone and get a fairly priced computer that I can afford. Microsoft and cell phone makers are catching up. Keep an eye out on the new Nokia. I am hoping we finally have some decent competition to apple. I am tired Apple. Apple tv1, then apple tv2 but I can't afford the computer to actually take advantage of the best thing to come to apple tv yet. Mirroring. Keep digging into your pockets apple fans if you want to be in the cool club. I'm Out!

Apple, you have scored a major own goal here, and are in danger of ailenating you loyal fan base. I like all the others have a recent 2010 top of the range all the bells unibody Mackbook Pro and you choose not to support it.

I really dont belive for a secon that there is a technical reason for this...

Comapnies in general replace computers 3 - 4 year cycles you should at the very least support devices to that age.

now you are number one do you really wany to follow microsoft... may apple users are apple users because of microsoft, DONT LOOSE YOUR FOCUS

Looks like I'm joining the long queue to moan about ML and airplay and like most I only upgraded for this feature.

I've been a staunch supporter and advocate of all things apple but this is taking the p***. My iPhone 4 and iPad 2 airplay fine but my MB pro, alas no as it's only a couple of years old. I will not upgrade my hardware just for this function so back to cable.

It'll be a long time before I pay for another "upgrade" to OS.

Now where's the thread to maon about Gatekeeper....... or is my MB Pro too old for that as well......!

I also feel cheated out of my money.

I have a 2010 iMac and also mainly bought the Mountain Lion upgrade for the Airplay Mirroring feature.

At first I thought this must be a mistake, but then I came onto this forum and am now furious!!

I think having this feature available for only products 12months old or newer is an outrage.

18 Pages on this forum of people having the same issue - Apple must rectify this or they will have lost some loyal customers.

More than being annoyed at this, I'm dissapointed as I've never had any issues with Apple before. I hope that they can resolve this issue and maintain their strong and loyal customers on this thread.
