Mountain Lion AirPlay Mirroring (iMac to AppleTV) Not Working

Mountain Lion successfully installed on my iMac.

AppleTV sucessfully networked with my iMac (at least where iTunes and iPhoto are concerned.)

But AirPlay icon is NOT appearing in my menu bar. Any clues as to why this is?

In System Preferences, I've checked "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" but still nothing.

Below is a screenshot of my menu bar. Thanks in advance!

Never mind. Just realized my iMac is too old. Late 2009.

AirPlay will only work for mid 2011. 😟

I get that it might be a hardware limitation. Apple doesnt like to implement things unless its going to work at its absolute best.

The main problem here is that Apple DID NOT make it clear to the general public that this was a feature limited to the newest hardware! Its not the 20 dollars for the software, its the letdown that once again our hardware wont support a fancy new feature. Its just simply a way for Apple to sell more hardware in a world where desktop computers are slowly becoming a thing of the past.

Tisk Tisk Apple. You could have made this MUCH clearer. Especially since you are catering to a crowd that doesnt want to F around. This is why we chose YOUR products and not other less intuitive ones.

I too like everyone else feel totally cheated. Since several years ago when I first started using a VGA cable to connect my laptop to my tv, I've dreamed of the day I could do it wirelessly, and have been talking this feature of Mac AirPlay to everyone since I heard it was coming. Rushed home fro

Work last night in anticipation of trying it out only to find out it wouldnt work on my Mac (mid 2010). What a disappointment! To me this is a deal breaker and I have to wonder if Apple died when Steve died. I now have 4 apple devices on eBay as well, hello Droid!

try this...

Sorry about that! There was a small bug that was preventing some users from properly installing the audio and video drivers. We've released an update that should take care of this and get everything working. You can download the update by opening the AirParrot menu and selecting "Check for Updates...."

After downloading the update, try running this tool and re-installing the drivers: http://airparrot.com/download/AirParrotRemovalTool.zip
