Mountain Lion AirPlay Mirroring (iMac to AppleTV) Not Working

Here is the process to get your refund.

1. either you call them or you write an email and gently ask to gat your money back because you are not going to use ML and you are rolling back to a previous version

2a. often they agree and you get your money back

2b. they tell you sales through the App Store are Final and you are European: in this case you telle them that European law states you have the right to change your mind and you WANT your money back. In the worst case you send them a registered letter threating to engage a lawyer. They MUST refund you

2c. they tell you sales through the App Store are Final and you are NOT European: I honestly don't know

This is incredibly ridiculous. My iMac is not even 2 years old and I have begun to feel outdated. A big attraction of the Mountain Lion upgrade was the Airplay mirroring feature. Like others on this thread, the realization came too late - i had already downloaded the upgrade.

Anyway, irrespective of the cost, its the attitude that *****. We pay much more for Apple machines than Microsoft ones. The least one can expect is a significantly delayed product obsolescence. It appears as if Apple has begun to think that people may want to change Apple machines at the rate at which they change Microsoft ones. What they forget is that microsoft ones are available at half the cost.

Why should we buy apple imacs anymore?

THIS IS SO FRUSTRATING!!! My iMac is a 2010 model - not even two years old! I have a 60" wall mounted flat panel, bose sourround sound, and I bought an apple tv when I heard about this airplay mirror capability - THIS WAS A MAJOR PART OF MY DECISION. I feel apple has douped me! My 27" iMac is not old and this MAIN FEATURE should be availble to a computer more than a year old. Apple - you have to do better than this!!

I don't feel cheated, I was cheated by Apple, 6 months announcing Mountain Lion and They never us that, I am very loyal to Apple and this things are not loyal from them. They robbed us. Thats why people jailbreak their devices, for that kind of lies. Apple computers are not cheap at all, at least I can't buy an apple computer every year or every 2 years. So for that kind of life ¡¡Buy AirParrot!!

Just for the record, I upgraded for this feature... and bought an Apple TV3, now I feel hard done by.

Does anybody have a link to the Air Parrot app, it's obvious they are better programmers, unlike the amateurs that Apple employs... pity I have to pay more to get a function that should have been available in the first place.

It's bullcrap it should definitely have been stated more clearly that airplay mirroring won't work with all computers that have the requirements. I suggest rating mountain lion in the appstore accordingly! Thats about the only way you can show you're not satisfied

I'm just writting here with the hope that Apple gets the message, that we all feel cheated.

I have a "Middle 2010 MacBook Pro", bought on January 2011 and decided to buy this year an Apple TV because of the announced AirPlay Mirroring on Mountain Lion. Well, not only did I buy an Apple TV, I waited like crazy for the Mountain Lion Update and for my susprised, my not-even-2-year-old MacBook Pro doesn't support it...

I mean, I can still kind of understand Siri not working on the iPad or iPhone 4... iOS updates are free. But for Mountain Lion we are actually paying money!

And what do they expect? That I throw out my 2 year Mac and buy a new one??

This is extremely dissapointing. This was the main reason I paid the $20, apple should be ashamed of themselves.

I completely agree -- I've had 3 iphones (2x iPhone 4 and 1x iPhone 4S), 2 ipads (1x IPad2 and 1x new iPad), an Apple TV 2nd Gen and my 2010 macbook pro (3 operating systems). I've been extremely loyal to Apple since I initially converted to them. I am now starting to question the customer centric orientation that Apple claims to have. This was clearly misleading and was the most anticipated feature of the new OS release.

When Windows 8 comes out, if it delivers to its hype, I worry for Apple.

Very dissapointing. This miss has resulted in the highest number of negative comments I've ever seen in regards to an Apple product. Steve must be turning in his grave.

Exactly the same situation - bought Macbook Pro in Jan 2011 (which got me a mid 2010) - have 2 Apple TV's and now need to buy a new Macbook Pro to make this work? That's just strange and could have been communicated a bit differently. Very disappointing. For a company like Apply you would expect something better than this. Well, at least I have an iPad 2 which does give me the Mirroring functionality. Can Apply advise if there is other route (then buying a new Mac) to make this work?

This is a joke! It is only done to persuade (force) people to upgrade if they want to enjoy a feature in the OS that clearly can be handled by a lot older Macs (see Air Parrot).

I am very unhappy with the way this has been done, especially when older hardware can cope with it.

I was offered a refund when I complained, but a refund is not the point. I simply want a feature that my hardware can easily handle to work.

This is a shameful tactic Apple, one that sickens me!
