Mountain Lion AirPlay Mirroring (iMac to AppleTV) Not Working

not only that, but I feel the need for a news story to go worldwide on how we feel cheates. News statsions LOVE to hear things like this. ITs time to hit apple where it hurts and make this as public and humiliating as possible!!! I am contacting my local news station and I encourage all you to you DO THE SAME!!!!!

I can airplay to my AppleTV 2 from iTunes on my 2 year old MacBook Pro but I can't airplay mirror from the new OS Mountain Lion? Is this the same as hardware not able to support flash? Mac your credibility has diminished greatly in my view. I think you just released your Vista.

WOW! I wonder if anyone from Apple knew this would happen? I'm sure they did because how can there be hundreds of members writing the same complaint over and over again. Surely, their business and marketing team of analysts, sociologists, psychologists, behavioral analysts, and whatever other professional marketing engineers they utilize to study the human reaction of emotional buyers, knew that the impressionable public would run around in a frenzy of panic because a simple thing like Airplay Mirroring would only be available to certain members of the community. Just look at all the members coming out of the woodwork typing and writing their complaints already to Apple, or writing their reviews in the Mac App Store among others. It spreads like a virus, possibly on purpose to study what you'll do and how far you'll go to get what you think you need? Maybe the idea is to do exactly that, bring you out of the woodwork? Just Saying.

Those of you who read this or any other complaint in this particular thread of discussions may notice that most of the members here in this thread are mostly Level 1 members, including myself. Almost all (at this point) of the 26 plus or more pages are of the same exact complaint, which at Level 1 are probably individuals who just became members for the first time, so they could write their complaint about Airplay being the main reason for upgrading to Mountain Lion. I think it's very interesting that the more they complain and add themselves here, the bigger the Apple Community grows which proves, either way, whether you complain or not, it is still considered positive support for Apple. Kind of a catch 22, don't you think? Can you imagine how big the Apple Discussion Communities have grown in less than 24hrs?

Of course they do what they do on purpose to draw out an emotional response. This gives them the edge to determine when, where, how and why to sell a product. If a company gave you everything they had to offer up front, how then would they be able to make profits later. Its called job security and we little people know exactly what that implies. We can only be upset with ourselves, for NO entity can take advantage of us without giving them permission to. It is their dream, not ours. Therefore, it is their job and sole purpose to show us why it should be ours too, therefore show us why we should buy into it. Sales 101.

I'm not saying I agree or disagree with society, nor do I with big business. I'm not a conspiracy theorist. I'm just making an observation here and stating my point like everyone else. I doubt many will read this since this thread of discussions appear to say the same thing over again, so I'm not looking for responses. Just Saying. I hope everyone finds what they are looking for or finds what they are missing in the near future and that Apple will find a way to fill the void in the souls of all our Macs, regardless of age?

Apple, this is terrible. Very disappointed, and misleading. The main reason I upgraded to Mountain Lion was the Airplay mirroring. I have an Imac Mid 2010, more than capable to running Airplay in my opinion. I own an two iPads, and iPhone, Apple TV and an IMAC. You have really let me know here.

I retract my previous statement. IT seems that apple isnt cheating us at all. it seems that the reason why this mirroring won't work is because compressing video using the CPU in real time is not fast enough to produce a tru mirror.

Apple instead is using the GPU chip to compress the video in real time so that the user experiences no lag on their end using their computer. using this approach, the screen is mirrored perfectly with no lag, even playign games or showing a movie. it is in fact a hardware limitation and is also why they say you need a specific graphics card to utilize this feature. had this had been mentioned previous, I would, and sevreal other people would have been less ****** had apple just explained how screen mirroring is programmd to work

I agree, I feel cheated that I can not use this awesome function because my MacBook Pro is a Mid 2009 version, I've also upgraded with a SDD and 8GB of Ram which I'm sure is more powerful than my iPhone!!

Apple please fix this.

I was also sold apple tv and ML on mirroring and feel ripped off.

Shameful Apple. You're losing so much customer loyalty for stuff like this.

Shame on you apple. I never thought I will say that but I will go back to windows. never again an apple for me.. they care only about $ not the custumers.

My wife asked me what I wanted for father day. I told her the Apple TV so i can Airplay when the new OS come out. I was so dissapointed when it would not work. So I'm not out $20 I'm out $120. plus I drove 2hr to a apple store so i could have the apple tv father day. I realy hope that the poeple at apple are reading these discussions.

Just worked this out myself...fist time I've sat down with Mountain Lion and I am ever so slightly peeved.

May I suggest Air Parrot...it's what I have been using but I did think Apples solution would be better than a third parties.

It does however mean that it is possible for late 2009 to run airplay as it clearly has both the hardware and software capabilities to use airplay...but apple choose not to give it to us!

I certainly dont retract my previous statement. I can understand that my macbook wont run airplay due to technical restrictions - after all its nearly 4 years old so these things are bound to happen. What I object to is the fact I was told catagorically by an assistant at my local Apple store that I would be able to do airplay mirroring from my Mac when Mountain Lion came out and this was a key factor in deciding to buy an ATV3.

Apple made a lot of this feature and kept the limitations very low profile so I feel mislead. Those who have fallen for this in the UK might want to consider lodging a complaint with the Advertising Standards Authority - it wouldn't be the first time Apple have been in trouble for this sort of thing un the UK - here's a link to the site:

I´ve got an imac late 2009 with i7 cpu and four kernels. This CPU should be too slow? Look at parrot. Here we cant see how good it works. I changed from Windows to Apple because I thought Steve Jobs creates Hard- and Software for the users not against them. But now I feel it´s vice versa. Only shareholder value. Buy a new Computer. Sorry but I am deeply confused and angry about this.

Apple rescue your good name and make a good Solution for all Apple Computers that are able to mirror to Apple Tv.
