Mountain Lion successfully installed on my iMac.
AppleTV sucessfully networked with my iMac (at least where iTunes and iPhoto are concerned.)
But AirPlay icon is NOT appearing in my menu bar. Any clues as to why this is?
In System Preferences, I've checked "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" but still nothing.

I just installed Mountain Lion(OS X 10.8 (12A269)) on my iMac and airplay does not show up.
I have a newer iMac: iMac11,2 and would have xpected it to work on this version of the iMac, but such is not the case.
I also installed on a Macmini(Macmini5,2) and it does work.
Very disappointing to not even have it work on 2011 model iMac.
Unbelievable that this does not work. Fix this Apple!
Hi all, a program called Air Parrot will solve this for you. I have been using this for a couple of weeks now on my 2010 MacBook Pro on my ATV 2&3. Hope this helps.

This Was TOTALLY deceiving for APPLE to do. I Upgrade to Mountain Lion and bought an Apple TV just so I could do this. I was not told before it would not work. Is this the new Apple??
Seriously?... This is the only reason I bought ML. I NEVER read that anywhere and I read almost all the details of ML features.! This is not impossible to do... I have the top of the line Mid-2010 15" MBP AG that I actually bought in December of 2010, a few months that a new MBP came out... This makes me really really angry... RAGE. Please fix this... My parents were going to use this to play videos for my 87 year old grandparents... This is not what Apple is all about. I expected more from such a great company.
SO dissapointed in Apple right now...
I cancelled cable for this... and got in to a one year contract with really fast internet just to stream movies and shows... I was about to buy an airport extreme too... but guess what... you just lost business from almost 5000 people already... and this is the first day...
*** Apple they should mention this shi!t. My computer is a beast mac book pro from 2010. W 4gb/500gb and in erfect condition. there is no reason these computers cannot airplay! Especially if the ipad can handle it. What a load.

THE ONE THING I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO! and this is how they tell you it's not compatible:
nested inside the extra features page, in 10pt type at the bottom of the page... NOT COOL!!!
As for Air Parrot... I think i'll wait to see if Apple wises up and releases an update to include older macs in airplay mirroring.
I feel cheated as well. This is THE ONLY reason I upgraded to ML. CHEATED
i hope there will be a terminal command in the futur to enable it
also not very happy about this situation....Only upgraded to make use of the mirroring with the atv3 I purchased for said us....DISLIKE!
