Q: Mountain Lion AirPlay Mirroring (iMac to AppleTV) Not Working

Mountain Lion successfully installed on my iMac.

AppleTV sucessfully networked with my iMac (at least where iTunes and iPhoto are concerned.)

But AirPlay icon is NOT appearing in my menu bar. Any clues as to why this is?

In System Preferences, I've checked "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" but still nothing.

Below is a screenshot of my menu bar. Thanks in advance!

Does Parrot look as good as a Mac that is being mirrored?

Is there any solution to solve this problem?

I'm running a 2012 MBP Retina 15 inch w/Apple TV3 and I can not get airplay mirroring to work.  At first I would only get a black screen, but then I was told to delete my launch deamons & launch agents.  I did that and then I would get an image at least up on the screen, but it would not reflect what I was doing on my laptop.  It was a static image that would change once every 1-3 minutes.

I'm kind of exhausted out of options other then to retun it.  Is there a solution yet or still no answer?

I thinck your wifi airport is so far from your apple tv or you MBP. So the connection is so slow.

try to put your apple tv next to you wifii and you MBP to.

I've got the icon. It works great for mirroring the image, but the audio stays in my computer's speakers.

Click your apple >> system preferences >> sound >> output.  Make sure Apple TV is selected.

I have had a problem doing this before, where it would keep bouncing back to the internal speakers after selecting Apple TV.  I resolved that with a PRAM reset.  If this happens to you, see this article:  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

I don't what to tell ya, have a first edition 27 inch Quad 2.8 i7 iMac, and have not installed Air Parrot or anything, now my AppleTV and Denon AVR both allow airplay. I have no idea how this happened, maybe software update? Of course, now my 1/8 inch jack is spotty, go figure :-)

That's not full-function Airplay. That only works in iTunes and when you use it it disables the display on your Mac. Although handy, it's not new.

"Real" Airplay (if you want to call it that) that only exists on mid-2011 machines and newer will mirror whatever is on your display in real-time. The Mac display continues to function and it does not have to be iTunes. You can be browsing the web, watching a video in Quicktime, using Keynote, etc. It just mirrors anything the Mac screen to Apple TV.

    ****Edit:

I'm editing this, because I realized this screenshot is showing a feature just for audio and it not restricted to iTunes. I didn't catch that at first. That's interesting, but not really the video mirroring many of us were hoping for. It's audio-only, correct?

I have a Mac mini 3,1 and use airserver because I don't have an Apple TV

    http://www.airserver.com/

Air parrot should work as well. They should both have trials

I also use air video to stream video content from my mac to ios devices.

Hey Apple, that was great, how I bought 3 MBP’s from 2009 to 2011 and then a 27” iMac in 2014 that happened to be second hand that wasn’t compatible to share a screen; so now i have to watch my tiny Mac lap screen as opposed to my lovely 27” iMac screen.

    And it’s Akira.

Well, whatever, guess Apple dropped the ball since Jobs departed, God bless him, but may the devil **** his postdecessors in the anus hard with a ******* rusty cricket bat: how dare they manipulate the wallets of the common user????

    Totally ******* perverted.

The opposite of why Jobs started this company.

Basically: Corporate whores sucking Satans ****.

Well, enjoy, choke on that satanic sperm and drown in it you ******* dogs.

Good luck in **** and thanks for making a million of us have to spend another $2000.

    Thats $20,000,000.

    Well Done.

    Congrats.

    You ******* *****.

    Your mothers must be proud.

Still no solution other than big money.

Seriously, these ******* ***** have a major ******* lack of comprehension as to the public ideals that created this company.

These ***** think they can just ******* rinse this ******* **** of a cash cow **** into the ******* ground, because, well, why not?

This is even beyond capitalism. This is just corporate bleed out economics.

We are but the stuck pigs on the end of Apples' spear hanging like dying beasts to bleed into their patty cakes. Well, **** those **** ******* **** *****. Who the **** do these ***** think they are ******* dealing with?

Do they think we will just buy their ****? Us ***** that are so ******* dumb will just hand over two or three months wages for their ******** ******* crap that doesn't even advance in any way, just adds a few more apps and a few more dozen dollars?

I guess they are right. We are dumb ******* *****.

We have nothing else to live for except their garbage commodities.

    Thank you Apple:

    Gods of the world.
