Q: Mountain Lion AirPlay Mirroring (iMac to AppleTV) Not Working

Mountain Lion successfully installed on my iMac.

AppleTV sucessfully networked with my iMac (at least where iTunes and iPhoto are concerned.)

But AirPlay icon is NOT appearing in my menu bar. Any clues as to why this is?

In System Preferences, I've checked "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" but still nothing.

Below is a screenshot of my menu bar. Thanks in advance!

Add me to the unhappy customers: late 2009, i7 iMac with 16 GB of memory . and it can not even stream to my ATV2? One of the key features I upgraded . and it doesn't work .. Not happy !

This is unbelievable! A late 2009 iMac still incredible fast, no airplay mirroring. I hope the first google desktop computer comes soon, since Steve is dead this company is going down!

TOTALLY APPAULED AT APPLE FOR A COMPLETE FAIL!  APPLE TV AND MIRRORING WERE THE ONLY REASON I WENT FOR THE UPGRADE AND WASTED A MORNING OF MY LIFE BECAUSE THE TECH REQUIREMENTS WERE NOT MADE CLEAR.   NOT HAPPY, NOT HAPPY ONE LITTLE BIT YOU BUNCH OF W*****S

I'll add another voice of disappointment. The only reason I upgraded to ML was for the airplay, but didn't read about the hardware requirements until after. Who would have thought a 2 year old macbook pro wouldn't be sufficient to be able to handle this feature. I feel even sorrier for the people who have even newer machines that are still unsupported.

Wow! I have a late 2010 Macbook Air and thought I could mirror to apple TV. Some type of warning or notice should have been shown before purchase. This is the main reason I upgraded to lion was for this feature. So now I have to invest another $1500 to buy another macbook air just to use this feature? this makes no sense

This is actually ridiculous! I have an iMac from early 2009, just bought Apple TV 3 and only upgraded to Mountain Lion so that I could use the airplay function! I already have AirParrot, but the resolution and constant lag when using it is what pushed me to upgrade to Mountain Lion, so i could use this feature! Please fix this, Apple.

Apple you have cheated us. I guess you are not confident about your new products that you are using these tactics to make us upgrade.

This is one the MAJOR reasons why every person would want to upgrade to Mountain Lion, the least you could've done was to make it very clear to the customer that it will not be compatible with older machines.

Sheesh! Wish Steve were here to see this.

#epicfail.... I'm not sure how it is not included on '09 iMacs and up...especially since $10 software available on the market by a third party can provide the same / similar service....

Is it possible to get our money back if we have not installed it as yet?... I just downloaded the software...

As a loyal Apple customer for the past 8 years, this has been the worst disapointment I have every had to deal with. When upgrading to ML, nowhere did it say that you needed a specific computer to use AirPlay mirroring. I feel cheated and robbed. Apple better fix this or they're in for a ride with other competitors. And don't make it 6 months from now when we all purchase 3rd party apps to do such a thing...

I was excited about M. Lion release all day today, came back from work, downloaded… 1.5 hrs later, now I’m VERY DISSAPOINTED. I just purchased Apple TV recently, believing it'll mirror with my mid 2010 iMac.

I'm a loyal Mac user for over 16 years, but never been disappointed about Mac as much as today. They should have explained upfront it'll only work with less than 1 yr old devices... What a shame!!! iPad mirroring works fine for video content, but it won't let use applications like Adobe CS. Two of my friends are also thinking to buy Apple TV solely because of AirPlay feature.  I’d better stop them...

very displeased. nowhere does it indicate that you have to have a "new" mac to use this.

this is a huge feature to just leave out for such a large user base.

Seriously?? This is so not cool. I've only had my iMac for 1 1/2 years.... how can it not be compatible?? Fix this apple or give us all a refund. This is the ONLY feature I was looking forward to with ML! I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!! FALSE ADVERTISING!

actually i'm sure somebody else has posted this somewhere in here but here it is again.

    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/

I still think it's bogus that they disabled this for even slightly older Macs ( 27-inch, Mid 2010 here ).
