Q: Mountain Lion AirPlay Mirroring (iMac to AppleTV) Not Working

Mountain Lion successfully installed on my iMac.

AppleTV sucessfully networked with my iMac (at least where iTunes and iPhoto are concerned.)

But AirPlay icon is NOT appearing in my menu bar. Any clues as to why this is?

In System Preferences, I've checked "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" but still nothing.

Below is a screenshot of my menu bar. Thanks in advance!

So just to be sure I understood here, this AirPlay from Mac will only work if I have an AppleTV, right?!

So I guess I'll keep using Airfoil...

i'm totally agree with you... It's a shame for apple to do that ! They must change it and quickly. If we can use it by iTunes for listening music and/or watch video , I don't see where is the trouble with mirroring.

    Apple don't be stupid !

    Hi Everyone,

    email a complaint to

    macappstore_english_us_support@apple.com

about your unhappiness with Mountain Lion.  I did and got a refund straight away.

Also go to Apple Feedback and tell them what you think

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

The more painful this becomes the more likely they are to want to fix this and painful is refunds!

    I can't believe this.....

Paid for ML before work and ran the installer and headed to the office.

Durning lunch I bought a new ATV Gen2 (for 1080p - the old one can go in the bedroom now).

Got home super excited about one feature........AirPlay Mirroring! Love airplay on the iPad, but on the mac would be so much more practical.

I played around in settings for a good 30 minutes before goggling and finding this thread.....

An 18 month MBP is out of date....SERIOUSLY APPLE?

I want my $120 dollars I spent today on NOTHING back.

    FU!

Bring on Win8 and Surface....time to go back to an open platform.......you lost me today.

Are you kidding me Apple? You are so desperately trying to please Wall Street now that you started to apply these dirty tatics to grab money from your loyal customers and in an attempt to spawn growth? I am just speechless, I feel like betrayed. I trusted you and I kept saying how good this company is to my other friends. Well, thanks for the "Ha, Gotcha!". You suck!

    Thanks Darren,

I have followed your guidance and submitted a complaint to Apple, outlining my disappointment, detailing not only the issue with Mirroring, but the numerous other features that have been delaying until later this year.

I urge, everyone else, that feel let down by Apple, to do the same.

    Regards,

    Graham

Airplay will work for Apple TV and itunes etc from my mac book pro, so this is a software fix by Apple not a hardware issue. Apple please sort this out. I can't believe they've done this, many times you are truely innovative other times you are unbelievably inept.

Not good! Mid 2010 MBP here. Ripped off and very upset. And is it true it will only work on the 1080p version of the ATV?

Steve wouldn't release something that isn't compatible with any Mac. His employees would have to find a work around or something. Airplay not running on any Mac is not perfect and not acceptable!

I also feel cheated. I just bought an Apple TV - the only reason I bought it was because Mountain Lion was about to come out and it supported Airplay Mirroring. I have mid 2010 Mac Mini and a mid 2010 Macbook Pro.

Once I had bought the Apple TV and Mountain Lion, I found that of course Airplay Mirroring didn't work.

If you were smart enough to read the small print and to know precisely which model Macbook or Mac Mini you had (not obvious at all, because the 'Mid 2010' descriptors were only introduced in Lion and I upgraded straight from Snow Leopard) then you would know not to waste your time and money. But for the average punter like me, I just feel like I've been conned.

This experience has turned me fron an Apple evangelist to a cynic. Very, very disappointed,

Pretty disappointing, for sure.  I was excited to use this feature, but it's certainly not worth buying a new computer.  I've always been an Apple early adopter because I trusted them.  I hope they make this right.
