Q: Mountain Lion AirPlay Mirroring (iMac to AppleTV) Not Working

Mountain Lion successfully installed on my iMac.

AppleTV sucessfully networked with my iMac (at least where iTunes and iPhoto are concerned.)

But AirPlay icon is NOT appearing in my menu bar. Any clues as to why this is?

In System Preferences, I've checked "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" but still nothing.

Below is a screenshot of my menu bar. Thanks in advance!

Is it me or have they stripped airplay from iTunes too?! Really Apple?! Your reasoning for needing the new processors is poor enough, but stripping out features I used just yesterday is really, really shameful. No excuses for this apart from money grabbing.

you do the airplay audio via the audio settings now, you don't need it in itunes.

omg.  I just got taken by the same issue.  Mirroring to my apple tv was the only reason I upgraded and it won't work on my computer.  Why wasn't this made clear.  I want a money back downgrade.

Ofcourse you are right when you say that we should take the responsibity ourselves......BUT never before did Apple keep a big thing like this unspoken. Everybody was waiting for this feature and it would have been fair from Apple if they had mentioned the fact that it was a feature for only the menority of mac-users.

The fact that so many people come to this forum and feel betrayed does say something about the trust they had in Apple. We all thought we were smart consumers, because we bought Apple. Apple gave us the feeling that we could trust them, so it wouldn't be of big importance to read al the small letters. I watched the whole keynote about ML and it wasn't mentioned. So with me, the majority of mac-users trusted Apple on their word and bought full enthousiasme ML. And no, we did not read, but we also did not hear!

So stricktly spoken you are right in what you say, but that does not take away the bad taste that Apple leaves.

Nobody can prove it, but it shure as **** tasts like a very tastless, yet commercial way to force us to buy new equipment.

Apple grew this big because of all the consumers, but somewhere along they forgot this. What a shame.

Very, very disappointd.  My late 2009 iMac is still a great machine, so I have no need to upgrade it just yet.  Maybe in a year or so, but not now.  There's nothing wrong with it - except it can't use one of the best features of the new operating system.

Not good enough Apple.  How can a brand with such a loyal and active following, making it the most valuable brand in the world, just totally stomp on those that have made them who they are.

Does Apple even listen to our complaints?  For a company so embedded in everything new and innovative in this modern world, they are probably the most closed and least engaged of all the brands.

I stand corrected on Airplay over itunes!  My Apple TV couldn't access my network for some reason. A quick restart leaves egg on my face and at least the one feature of Airplay I use the most still able to work.

I went and read the whats new page on mountain lion again. Nothing here that states model requirement to run airplay mirroring, and nothing in fine print. BOOOOOOOOOO!
