Q: Mountain Lion AirPlay Mirroring (iMac to AppleTV) Not Working

Mountain Lion successfully installed on my iMac.

AppleTV sucessfully networked with my iMac (at least where iTunes and iPhoto are concerned.)

But AirPlay icon is NOT appearing in my menu bar. Any clues as to why this is?

In System Preferences, I've checked "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" but still nothing.

Below is a screenshot of my menu bar. Thanks in advance!

I wonder if anyone can help with my particular AirParrot problem.  It was working just fine until last night when a new download to Apple TV was interrupted accidentally. Now AirParrot can't see Apple TV at all. I've tried removing and replacing AirParrot from my computer but it didn't make any difference. Any help out there?

    Many Thanks.

Did you try resetting the ATV? Pull the power on it, wait a few seconds, then plug it back in.

The Apple TV was accidentally unplugged, Airparrot wouldn't work after that.

I am now going to take the higher road and pass on the plethora of tech support jokes that are out there.

Glad it's fixed, enjoy your mirroring.

You should start a thread, rather than piggybacking an unrelated question on a thread with almost 1000 posts.

What I cant understand is why there is a check box to enable mirroring when they know that a mid 2010 imac cannot use this feature. Its obviously to lead you to think that you can rush off and buy an apple tv and use mirroring. This is deception in its most obvious form. How can I ever trust Apple again.

How would you see that option before you bought the ATV? Why not just ask?

I asked, but the rep (not an apple store) did not know there was an issue until after I came back and told them.

That said, I have personally no more issues since I needed only to stream TV and movies. I use Beamer (which alas does not handle movies with encryption) and air video server on my iMac and air video client on my iPad which has no problem throwing the stream onto my TV, WITH subtitles. I realise not everybody with an older iMac has an iPad, but it works for me

when you update to mountain lion the option for mirroring appears in the display settings whether you have apple tv or not. Thats how you see that option!

Why would I ask if it only works with mid 2011 imac's If they give you no indication that there could be an issue.

It also doesnt say that it will make your computer blow up, perhaps I should ask that question just in case, because they dont give you that indication either.

How many different random questions should you ask?

Well one comes to mind, how about "will this mac support AirPlay mirroring with an ATV?"

    Not random at all really.

You are deliberately missing the point. If a product is not compatable with some models of its target market based on its manufacture date then it should be made perfectly clear, Not totally unmentioned.

If Apple came up with a printer that would only work with certain Imacs it would surely say so, right? Most products clearly state minimum system requirements. So why not so in this case.

Fully expecting you to miss the point again.

It was mentioned, however you did not look.
