Mountain Lion install stuck on "Less than a minute"

I am attempting to update my MBP from Lion to Mountain Lion. The installer has been stuck on "Less than a minute" for over 30 mins. Is this something that will eventually sort itself? Or do I need to to something.

TIA

Wait, if nothing happens within 30 minutes, resart and the install should restart from where it left off.

I am upgrading a MacBook Pro (Mid 2009) and it got stuck after the intial install and started having - minutes as in -5, -6, -7 etc... I waited until -14 and restarted the MacBook and it is starting the install all over again. I hope I did not lose the data on the MacBook as this is for my Mother In Law who is visiting...

I should know in about a half hour if restarting did the trick or not when it got stuck at the end. I upgraded another MacBook Pro mid-2009 with no issues and also an iMac from early 2009. Not sure why this one decided to get hung up like this.

I restarted the install on my MBP mid 2010 and now it's again stuck @ -10 minutes. Last time I gave it 30 + minutes to get over the - 10 minutes but it didn't work so I restarted.

Was searching else where in the forums and it seems one guy left it and it took around 90 min for the full install.

Some ppl say that Mountain Lion indexes all the files and if you have a large HDD it might be a little slow... So may we should leave it alone for a couple of hours .. ?

Unfortunately I ain't got no timemachine back up 😟

Larger systems take much longer. I tried again on Friday night and it seemed to hang at 34 minutes. A check of the systme log said it was 'checking volume'. Since we have about 20Tb of storage, it made sense that it would take longer than expected to check volumes. We left the system installing overnight Friday and on Saturday there was a brand new kitty on my Mac Pro.

Point is, just wait. Overnight if you have to. The install will complete eventually.

I'm having this issue as well. I don't have any backups since my Drobo (TimeMachine) has been on the fritz. I have tons of files. Probably close to 5TB. Installation was going quickly then stalled at "Less than a minute remaining" -- and there it stayed for over 2 hours. I'm going to leave it be and see what happens. Hopefully it will finish soon and I'll be relieved.

And anyway, I wouldn't know how to properly reboot if i had to. There is no menu option -- just hold down power? I'd be afraid my data would be erased. Yikes.
