Installed 10.8. Prompted to install Java SE 6 but the updater seems to time out and return a message that the software cannot be found.
Adobe CS5 products will not boot.

Roaringapps claims CS5 to be compatible with ML and IMO java should work by default. That's the reason I personally feel clean install everytime we reload a new OS.... If you have a lion time machine back up..l revert back and prepare a bootable USB for ML and do a fresh install during the weekend...

Thanks. Yeah I did see that article. I get the dialog and I allow it to try to upgrade. The dialog puts up a message that it is looking for the software, hangs for a bit, then returns an error that the software can not be found.
Java SE 6 1.0.16_33 can be found on Apple's downloads page (search for Java) - if that's the correct version (I don't know what version Mountain Lion uses) you can download the file there

I took a big gulp, downloaded it and ran it and the problem seems fixed.

I also timed out when it tried to install Java after the install... but when I next rebooted I got a system messge that CS4 Service Manager needed Java and it gave me an install now choice - and it found and downloaded the file with no issue today...

Thanks for the link. Solved my problem (same issue: "You need Java SE 6 to…" and update not found).
rickleerd suggested the Macupdate link and thats the only thing that worked for me using 10.8.2. Otherwise I got a message saying the software doesn't exit (or something to that effect) when trying to do it driectly from the Java app in the Utilities folder.
I guess apple removed it from their software update que for 10.8. Either that or its a bug. To repeat, the Macupdate.com download fixed the issue straight away when the normal methods failed for me.
