Can't check these options in iCloud setting (Pref. pane). It is trying but after say "Mail/Notes can’t be enabled at this time. Wait a moment and then try turning on Mail/Notes again." I have reinstalled system, tried again 50 times but still no luck. Any suggestion?

Having the same issue, but it's only Mail for me. My main iCloud account is working fine, but my 2 other accounts will not let me activate mail. Get the same message (Mail can't be enabled at this time. Wait a moment and try turning on Mail again.)

Same here. I can get to my email account via web, iPhone, and iPad, but can't add it to my ML machine.

You won't believe! Have spent all day to find that. Just connected my MPR to iPhone hotspot then tried to activate mail & notes again. And it started to work! Connected to condo wi-fi back and it's not working again. In my case it seems icloud servers block my IP or condo network filter and doesn't pass some data packets or something like this. Hope it may drop a hint...

Looks like it just kicked in. Wondering if there was some load issues on Apple's servers.

I was having the same issue and I went to Preference for mail and added my iCloud account in the accounts tab and this solved my problem. Hope this helps everyone.

I'm still having the same issue and it has been seven hours since I upgraded. Mail seems to be working on other devices that use the same ISP and router so it doesn't appear to be a networking issue.

    Please help!

I'm having the exact same issue.  Notes can't be enabled at this time.  Kinda frustrating, as it works on my iphone and ipad with out issues.

    Port 993 is likely blocked.

    Try opening the port.

    It worked for me.

    Thanks!

    I could'nt active notes/mail either.

this is how i solved the problem:

Open up Mail App, go to Preferences, set up new imap account by following these instuctions http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

Go Back to System Preferences and Mail, Contacts & Calendars and note the 2nd iCloud Account, see screenshot attached.

I still cannot enable notes or mail through the default iCloud account though...

    hope this helps

Same problem here. Adding the iCloud account in Mail.app didn't do it for me neither. Also tried using one of the alternate Apple-IDs, since my primary Apple-ID/iCloud ID is a gmail, but no luck. Can log in to iCloud.com with my gmail and see the mail. Everything works well and in sync between mye iPhone and iPad. But my two mac-computers, both with 10.8, can not sync mail and notes. Didn't have this issue with the GM release though...

Did you add it manually in mail.app, or did you follow the wizzard with an @icloud-ID?

And you where able to check mail and notes in the icloud pref. pan. after setting the account up in mail.app?
