I just purchased my Macbook Pro Retina 15" 5 days ago. I've updated to Mountain Lion, but when I go into the Energy Saver options, there are no check boxes for Powernap. Is there something else that needs to be done to enable this?

According to Apple's Mountain Lion site, Power Nap "may require a firmware update." Hopefully we'll see one today, I'm using a retina MBP and I don't see Power Nap anywhere either.

This is BOGUS! I was wanting this feature and I cannot find it. I have a MacBook Air 2011 13" Core i7 and it's not in my energy preferences. Where is this feature that Apple has been advertising? I paid for my Mountain Lion, it wasn't the free copy that some people are getting so I wonder if that's why. Only some people get it while others dont? Does anyone know?

Yes, it requires a firmware update in order to activate this. I do have to say Apple missed the boat on this one. They should have waited until this was available before releasing ML.

The update is available now. Click on then select software update.
The firmware update has been released for MB Airs, but not yet for the retina MBP. Apple says it is "coming soon" in a knowledge base article:
