iMessage on Mountain Lion problem

iMessage on Mountain Lion. Can't get it to synchronise with my iPhone. Have signed in to iMessage on the new Message app component of Snow Lion, it seems to be working but no mirror image appearing on other device. Anyone any idea what I am doing wrong?

HI,

On the iPhone clear all Messages.

If you want to "Save" some use the Edit button in an Open conversation and highlight/select all items and then Use th Forward button and send to your Apple ID in Messages.

You lose formatting but you will have the details

Next Add the Apple ID to Settings > Messages > Received At > Caller ID

This bit with the cleared Messages links the Apple ID and iPhone Number so that Messages sent to the Phone are synced to the devices and Messages app that use the Apple ID.

I have mine set on the Apple ID.

It is possible to change it if a Contact only knows your iPhone Number and you want to make sure you are identified at their end properly

HI,

I am not aware of a way to set different contacts with different Sending ID option on the Phone.

If you are in the habit of keeping "Saved" messages or a "conversation" of Messages on the phone it can pay to start with New Message after changing the Caller ID line.

Hi,

If you Contact has both bits of your Info then your should be identified as "First Name, Last Name" (based on their Contact/Address Book info) for you.

It is when a contact has only the iPhone Number that any potential issue arrives.

Ticking both may send an email address to someone you don't wish to have it. (Much as having just the email (Apple ID) does now.

People may want different ways of doing this but the answer remains remembering to change the caller ID before sending an iMessage.
