Mountain Lion keeps logging user out...

I have just installed Mountain Lion. In 30 minutes of using it, I have been logged out to the login screen roughly 12 times. All at completly random times. This is very vexing as this will make a completely unworkable environment.

Is anyone having the similar problem!? What could the issue be?

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

My display of my Macbook Pro 13" (2010) Core 2 Duo goes off and comes back seconds later. The energy save is set up to 2 minutes for the display. I have this problem since i updated my Macbook to Mountain Lion.

If i close the Macbook and open again the display goes grey and the desktop shows after 2 - 3 seconds. But this problem didn't excist every time.

I hope i can help with this statement.

This happend to me too. But I am on a late 2007 MacBook Pro 15-inch running Snow Leopard!

It just closed all applications in an instant, logged me off and sent me to the login screen. Happened 4 or 5 times doing different things. Only thing in common was that the system was under some kind of stress: Chrome with 50+ tabs, 2 or more huge SVGs opened in Inkscape, as well as other image processing applications open. No external monitor connected.

A german news site (golem.de) reported that one of their iMacs running Snow Leopard also showed the issue. It seems that this problem is not only related to Mountain Lion!

Just to chime in here. 2012 macbook pro i7 13". I just migrated over from Lion to Mt Lion. I've been using some tools I've used many times to delete duplicates and ! tracks from itunes (Dupin & Tracksift). I have a large library and have to run these for a few hours.

I go back to my machine and it either has tried to log out or has logged out. Long time user and this has NEVER been an issue for me. Check all the account and energy saver, ect settings. Mac keeps trying to log me out.

I just tried the advanced setting for Privacy & Security in Sys preferences mentioned later in this thread. Will try to repost again if this is the culprit. Why would Apple start putting all these new settings into the OS? At least have a quick and easy run down page of these new OS settings changes to make us aware and not spend endless hours trying to figure out what's going on. These may not be bugs but **** settings changes that are not posted in the upgrade docs.

After delaying the upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion (I tried a clean install and this was working fine for me) I decided to upgrade.

Worked fine for a day or so and now I have the maching logging me out completely after a couple of minutes on three accounts tested (including the guest account).

I have worked through most of the solutions suggested

1. Repairing permissions using disk utilityand resetpassword (repairing ACL permissions didn't seem to work or just took forever!)

2. Booting in safe mode (which appreared to be stable) and removing potentially offending automatic login items

I do not use dual monitors nor is there a dual graphics output ( no built in graphics on Core 2 duo that I'm aware of) so i suspect this is potentially a software issue.

I also cannot use my USB audio driver as I cannot see this at all in Audio MIDI drivers or in the sound option.

Very disappointed with this and I plan to revert to Snow Leopard until this is resolved (praying that time machine will let me do this!).

Today I updated to Mountain Lion 10.8.1 which was released today. I was hopeful that this problem was addressed and fixed.

I plugged in my 3rd monitor into the 2nd video card, and reboot my system.

Within 5 minutes, I had the spontaneous logout problem twice.

😟

So for me at least, 10.8.1 does not solve the issue.

I just has the same problem happen to me today. I have both an ATI 5870 and a NVIDIA Quadro card in my system. I didn't get any random logout until I did the last CUDA 5.0 update. Not sure it that has anything to do with. It didn't happen until then. This is not cool. I have projects I'm working on and to have my mac logout during the work day is not cool. I also didn't experience this problem when I was running Lion, only after Mountain Lion I've had the random logout's.
