This is ridiculous. Only reason I got this update was to support my apple TV with mirroring. And now come to find out, burried on some sub-website, this feature is only for 2011 and later Macs. I would like my money back and this rubish removed from my computer!
Genius, you should have done your research first before you downloaded ML because of airplay. Airplay only works on core i5/i7 Macs, it's all over the net. Stop whining and just enjoy what you purchased.

As a consumer it is also your responsibility to know what product you are buying and not just rely on what the ads say, there's always an asterisk at the end of the statement.
No - because it is also supported on the Macbook Air's that have Core 2 Duo processors - just not the Macbook Pro's. Seem a bit bizaar - no? And why do you have to be so freakin rude, when I am merely frustrated at a lack of a feature
True, Apple has really become underhanded as of late.
Rude?;.... maybe because you come on here ranting about Mountain Lion being "rubbish" although you have not even tried it since your mirroring didn't work and you threw a hissy fit. And secondly, because you are whining to other users who have no idea how to do what you want done and demand action. Talk to Apple. I'm certainly not going to refund your money to you or remove that "rubbish" that you failed to research.

We have been guarded about AirPlay in the AppleTV forum for some time as it was not clear until a short while prior to release which Macs would be supported and what restrictions might apply. (If it was I never found out until a few weeks ago)
I have 5 Macs. None are supported.
I can fully understand your frustration - you would assume if the OS was supported that the feature would be.
Whether it is a hardware requirement only satisfied by recent GPUs or simply Apple not wishing to support older machines is unclear. I would say however that if an iPad 2/3 can use Airplay you would expect a considerably more powerful desktop machine from recent years to be able to do so.

To be honest, as dissapointed as you are I think Mountain Lion has some nice features.

im not "freakin rude", im just merely stating the facts here. you should have done your research before spending for a product you thought that you needed. it is a software not a hardware that you can easily return and ask for a refund.

The fact is Apple is very underhanded and does not make it clear to the average user that some of the new features won't work even though Mountain Lion will run on their hardware.
I'm going to try and be a diplomat--not my best thing.
On the one hand, if Airplay is a make or break feature with respect to buying Mtn Lion, then perhaps a little extra research would have been in order. On the other hand, I've attached the part of the Mtn Lion feature description on Apple's Web site that describes Airplay. Take a look. There is no asterisk or footnote. The average person who doesn't spend an hour each day on the Mac news and opinion Web sites would have no reason to do further research. I knew about the Airplay restriction because I'm one of those geeks.
My two cents: Airplay mirroring is a HUGE feature addition. I'm going to be able to keep a hi-def monitor with an HDMI connection on my desktop and use it with my 2011 MacBook Air. I won't have to keep plugging and unplugging a connector from the Thunderbolt port. All I need is another Apple TV. To me that's big. The person above in this thread who is disappointed is not going to be a alone. Apple does need to do a better job of explaing that not all Macs can use this feature.

Had you checked prior to purchase, you would not have been disappointed with Mountain Lion.
All I can suggest is that you reinstall your previous system then contact App Store Help and ask for a credit to your account. I would imagine a system profile would have to be submitted which would show you are not running the OS you're asking to be refunded.
I would point out to you, and please note, I am not employed by Apple in any way, that Mountain Lion offers significantly more improvements over previous versions of OS X, than just AirPlay Mirroring, like for example notification centre to name just one improvement.
I understand you may be slightly disappointed not having Mirroring, but on the bright side, you now have a good excuse to upgrade your older Mac.
While I agree is some respects, the claims on Apple's site refer to currently available hardware, in which case, mirroring is supported. No footnote required.
Apple could have added the link to the specs page, just to cover themselves.
