    Thanks for the info, I wish this was mentioned on the Airplay section on the Mountain Lion Advertisment. I have a MacBook Air mid 2009 and I can not use the Air Play feature

    I agree, I have already run into this problem with my ipad that will not work with my new apple tv, not to mention that BS with iPhone 4 / 4s and suri.

    Forcing customers to buy the newest (very expensive) product by enticing them with software upgrades is wrong.

    APPLE !!  Don't **** off your customers, we will leave if you keep this up !!

    I have a 2009 MBP. Why did I have to pay the same amount of money to upgrade to Mountain Lion as everyone else but only get a portion of the features? First I don't have mirroring and now I don't have PowerNap? This is wrong. I've read arguments that it's all about the hardware specs, but c'mon Apple! If a third-party app (AirParrot) can do it, then you could've done it.

    I agree ! What that guy said.

    Guys, this isn't about how we can use 3rd party applications like Airparrot. I am faced with a physical disability and don't work at the momet and I can not afford a new MBP. I have a MBP mid 2009 and I think powernap and airplay mirroring should be included as long as you have a intel mac. It's not hard and it's definitely not rocket science. I am not prepared nor in the position to go out and spend almost $3500 on a new mac so I ccan have these amazing features. I'm so disappointed in Apple

    Outragious - I have imac 2009  - i upgraded was searching to enable Airplay - Disppointed to find this information;

    APPLE enable the Airplay for all the macs or build another application through which we can use this feature;

    I want my refund

    I am beyond ******!!! I feel like I was BAMBOOZLED by APPLE and its IDIOTS BAR!  This is not even funny, my Apple TV does not Mirror with a MBP from 2010 or my MacBook from 2009.

    Apple please give me a REFUND!  #failure

    Frustration is understandable but the requirements for airplay were put forth ahead of time. It comes down to the newer chips being able to do GPU h.264 encoding.

  • shayner_dawg Level 1 (0 points)

    There are no useful features other than airplay mirroring  in Mac OS X Mountain lion that I am wowing about so why did I upgrade? Why is it that Airparrot works with ALL Macs AND windows machines but Apple can't make it's own Airplay mirrroring work on ealier macs? mmm, I wonder. Maybe it's because Apple wants people to spend another $2000-3500 on a new Mac. I really like keeping up to date with my software but why did I waste my money on this when I don't get some of the amazing features that comes along with it? Does this seem fair to you? If you ask me, it doesn't

  • vazandrew Level 6 (17,946 points)

    Again, the requirements were stated beforehand. ML mirroring relies on the GPU to do h.264 encoding and earlier macs don't have this capability. Airparrot is software based and can cause slowdowns, image degradation etc

    I agree it doesn't seem fair but there is a reason

  • shayner_dawg Level 1 (0 points)

    That's just an excuse for Apple. If they wanted to make it available to everyone, they could. That's the beauty of software enginerering

    After being disappointed by apple again after buying The new Mountain Lion I just purchase AirParrot...

    So far I love it... it works fine, the sound works fine, so sad the way apple manipulates their customers especially when we are faithful to Apple...maybe it is time for a change...

  • vazandrew Level 6 (17,946 points)

    No it's not, it's a hardware limitation end of story.
