How to paint larger areas than your swipe pad allows?

Hi,

I am using a swipe pad on my new Apple iMac, which I love. However, I am having trouble figuring out how to "paint" a larger area than my swipe pad allows. For example, when I want to copy and paste a large area of a spreadsheet, I have to do it in sections or shrink the view of the page to copy and paste a large area. I drag my finger across the pad, but I am out of pad before I have "painted" the area I need to copy or cells I need to create a graph, etc.

I am sure there must be a work around for this, but I haven't been able to find it.

Can someone help?

Thanks!

Rhonda
