Exchange under Mountain Lion

I have major problems using Exchange in Mountain Lion. Under Lion everything worked fine (Mail, Calendar, Contacts incl. global address list). Under ML only Calendar works, Mail and Contacts show connection errors. Our corporate server is Exchange 2007.

Has somebody a fully working Exchange in ML?

Any ideas?

Many thanks!

I installed 10.8.1 Beta, and believe me, it is not fixed, in any constellation. More: it is not anymore possible in Mail do modify account settings, after the account was once setup (the server settings).

So i decided to experiment to modify Accounts.plist in ~/library/Mail/v2 manually, and believe me, it is not working, it is totally frusttrating and i would say, that apple should replace the mail dev team, since i dont know any other application on the mac made by apple causing so much frustration and anger to end users, than Mail and this is not only since ML.

Simmer down Ace.... it's called a Beta for a reason. Apple has asked developers to test how Exchange works. It is likely that the Apple team will make more changes based on that feedback.

how should i remain calm after such a mess in a simple mail app? i've upgaded ally private macs and macbooks and i asked the sysadmin in our company to update all our mac minis and we're all using exchange servers, me privately and in our company also. when you release an os you test it, and thats it. this is a absolute no go. and my pacience is gone. google alpha and beta versions and even win 8 beta seems more usable than ml apple production versions. i hate to use outlook on macs and i cannot believe with what kind of ignorance this issues are handeled on apples side. also i do not understand how each app purchased on the app store, which has major bugs can be updated by its developers wirthin a few days, while mac incorporated software has to wait for a combined system wide upgrade?!? and they put an os on the market, when they started development on 10.8.1 even before market launch of 10.8? so this bugs where partially known before, but they decided to put an buggy os on the market to keep the july deadline...

this doesn't seem professional to me at all.

As I mentioned many pages ago, any piece of software as large as an OS will inherently have bugs - you simply cannot test for every situation and configuration.

With every version of Mac OS they have an update already in development so this is nothing new, nor is it unprofessional. Would you rather they not fix known issues?

If Apple (or any software company) waited until everything was "perfect", no software would ever be released.

This issue notwithstanding, I have not had any other issues with ML and I think it is one of the best (if not the best) OS X versions.

Hi everybody,

I updated to ML end of july and I had the the problems with mail under ML as per description. For me a computer is a device which particularly should held me by the following issues:

1. Getting the best information

2. Getting my work done a lot easier than doing it by "hand"

3. Communication

Sure, "any piece of software as big as an OS will inherently have bugs". But this is not just a bug. In my opinion this is a big problem, when I cannot communicate with my environment, except when I switch to another mail app such as outlook for example (what a paradox!!!). And particulary with regard to "the best operating system of the world"! Sorry apple!

I´m not a computer specialist. Nevertheless, after calling the helpless hotline, I tried out some of the recommended solutions, but nothing worked for me.

Because I´m running a little company I have neither the time (and I don´t want to waste the time of my IT department) nor any **** to try getting my macs doing their work as they should under ML.

You all in here are doing a great job trying to get mail work under ML! But again sorry, this is definitely the job of apple!

As a result I downgraded back to Lion and....everything is working fine again!!!!

It seems that the simplicity and convenience is gone away from the apple universe (which was the reason for me to switch from MS PC to Mac).

Sorry apple, ML is not a good recommendation!

Frustrated greetings from Bavaria and I hope you (especially at Cupertino) could understand me!

P.S. I will still follow this thread and I hope there will be a sustainable solution working for all of us on this planet. 😠

Hi Joeri El Hazimi, hi Guralp

this is the way I did it. Your acting at your own risk, ok? 😉

1. First of all I had the good sense to produce a bootable USB stick with Lion installation routine before I installed ML! How you do so, there are many good advices in the www.

If you didn´t...... They say producing a bootable stick is independent from an apple account/ID! Perhaps you´ve got a friend.

2. When starting your Mac, keep holding the opt key untill you see the apple (on an german keyboard it´s the alt key)

3. Then start the HD/disk utility and erase your MacHD where you run ML. ATTENTION: All data and apps will go to Nirvana, so be carefull (before you do see bullet 5.)

4. Use the utility again to install Lion from your stick!

5. After that I took my data and apps back from my timecapsule backup!

6. Lion and particularly mail are working very well again

7. I´m happy again and it gives me a good Karma and a reworking company

So, that´s how I did it! Hope I could help you!

Perhaps I am not having the same issues as everyone else. I do see the issue with incoming and outgoing mail servers getting changed. But the bigger problem I am having is that in Mail it shows an empty mailbox for the Exchange Mailbox at times. Restart Mail and the messages may reappear. Additionally, most deletes and attempts to move messages to folders fail with the message:

The message "Subject line" could not be moved to the mailbox "Trash - Exchange" An error occurrec while moving messages to mailbox "Trash - Exchange"

Even if I get the host file fixes in place I cannot see my mail at times. Searches often fail to find items too.

Additionally, at times I cannot send messages with the report that Mail cannot find my outgoing mail server.

Are others having similar issues, or just the connetivity issues and the different server settings?

I am using Outlook 2011 in the meantime.

My coworkers who upgraded sometimes have similar issues. Most often the users who have issues have multiple mailboxes, Exchange + at least 1 more. Users with a single Exchange server mailbox are not seeing these same issues.

Removing the account and adding it back in seems to sometimes help, but only for a few hours.

Hardware is a 6 month old MBP 13.

Thanks

In response to Rich Boys:

I'm having the same issues (empy mailbox, and same error messages when moving emails to the Trash), and only for my Exchange account (aka, it does not happen with my Gmail and iCloud email accounts in ML Mail). When this happens, select your Exchange mailbox, and then go to menu Mailbox > Rebuild. It will rebuild the database for the selected email account, and pull the messages from the server. It usually fixes the issue for me, until the issue reappears again a few hours later. Pretty annoying....
