Exchange under Mountain Lion

I have major problems using Exchange in Mountain Lion. Under Lion everything worked fine (Mail, Calendar, Contacts incl. global address list). Under ML only Calendar works, Mail and Contacts show connection errors. Our corporate server is Exchange 2007.

Has somebody a fully working Exchange in ML?

Any ideas?

Many thanks!

10.8.2 has done NOTHING to improve the issue with ML Mail. Update details say it stops Autodiscover from activating itself when Mail opens, but this is not true. Still have the check box ticked whenever I open Mail, no matter how many times I uncheck it, and my exchange account only partially loads and then Mail crashes.

Seriously Apple, can you please stop worrying about the flashy stuff (slimmer phones, slimmer macbooks, retina display etc.) and sort out the basics first? If you call it a fix, that means it is supposed to "fix" the problem. Really wish I had never upgraded to Mountain Lion. Total pile of trash. :-(

It's obvious how the latest version of Mail still does not work well with Exchange Accounts (especially if you have more than one exchange account).

And since this problem has existed for a VERY long time... maybe we should urge everyone who is having this issue to post a simple and short comment about how they are having this problem (I mean, instead of just reading through the discussion... take the time to write something).

This may not help our community discover a fix amongst ourselves (though I think at this point, there isn't one available without Apple making a change)... but it may create such a result that the number of posts to this forum might draw Apple's attention... and push them to acknowledge the problem and ultimately fix it.

Just my $0.02.

Mail via Exchange is still not working. Here is my actual status (as proposed by Rich364)

- I have updated to 10.8.2

- I have deleted the exchange account and created it again

- I have only one exchange account and 3 other IMAP accounts in mail, one of this is the iCloud account

- I have myself and sometimes in parallel my assistant working on my mails and sorting them into folders

- Our exchange account is a hosted exchange solution. They work with 6 simultaneous servers. So autodiscover is activated (since 10.8.1), but I have also tried it with unchecking autodiscover

When using mail still

- folders are sometimes suddenly empty. sometimes it helps to restart mail

- sometimes I can not send mails

- sometimes selective mails show content in the preview, when you open them, they only have a headline with no content. Even waiting, re-sync does not work.

I have since two weeks switched back to MS Outlook. I am willing to give it another try, but I would like to see some serious action / feedback from Apple.

What concerns me most is, that it looks like that with size Apple has reached as a company, they start to copy the problems of a giant company, unable to handle the complexity of their solutions. If it continuous like this, the most important marketing aspect of Apple “It just works” is not valid anymore. Therefore please dear Apple guys, focus on these problems or start selling your shares.

Userfeedback has hit the nail on the head. One of Apple's main attractions was that it just worked. Not true of ML. As I have said earlier in this thread, I don't have the time, the patience or the know-how to implement workaround after workaround just to get my MacBook doing what Apple says it should.

Simplicity of use was why I, like other Apple users, have paid a lot more money for a computer than those who have laid their hands on a PC or windows laptop for a few hundred dollars. What do we have to show for our investment? Applications that don't work or require us to sign up to yet another e-mail account (e.g. Notes will only sync across devices if you have a MobileMe account, which only seems useful for this very purpose), users who have to revert to using Microsoft software on their Apple machines because the Apple equivalent is beyond use, and not a single acknowledgement from Apple that they have seriously messed up.

Wouldn't it be good if someone from Apple could post on this thread to demonstrate:

1. That they are aware of the problem and that they are doing something about it?

2. That they are not just sitting around watching their share price fluctuate?

3. That Steve Jobs' commitment of an honest, reliable and usable product which justifies the higher price paid, hasn't died with him?

This fix worked for me:

1. Delete Exchange account that is not working from "Mail, Contacts, and Calendars" in System Preferences;

2. Add new Exchange account using server settings;

3. If any "Certificate Verifications" pop up, click "Connect";

4. Wait for Mail, Calendars and Contacts to communicate with Exchange server - for me, I waited until I started seeing calendar events in the Notification Center;

5. Open Mail app;

6. Go to Preferences in Mail and navigate to Exchange account;

7. Uncheck "Use Autodiscover Service";

8. Fill in the External and Internal Server fields with your External Server information, e.g. "mail.yourserver.com";

9. On the Advanced Tab, check "Use SSL" for the External Server Path;

10. Click on "General" Tab, which then prompts you to save changes you made to the account;

11. Wait...BE PATIENT. It took a while for the Mac to communicate with our server, but I noticed after a period of time that the Mail Activity area was importing a lot of messages, i.e. inbox, sent, trash, other folders.

12. Unlike other attempts to install, I did not interrupt this process by clicking the inbox, or the sent folder, etc. Just let it work;

13. If any Certificate warnings pop up, click "Connect"

Again, this worked for me after no less than 30 failed attempts and alternative configurations.

sorry your description don't help me.

i work with 10.8.2 mountain lion and have successful connect with two different microsoft exchange server in cloud "office 365". This is with auto discover simple and fast.

But the connect to my own echange server in office, is not possible to connect for me.

I have tryed any configuration with an without auto discover.

iOS (iPad and iPhone) and windows7 with outlook2010 works fine with the same exhange server in my office.

It is obvious possible to make the connect with iOS (simple and fast), but not with MAC OS 10.8.2.

The apple hotline in germany ignore the problem, it's a dishonor.

The problem lies in your office Exchange server then, speak to your IT dept.

Sep 23, 2012 10:45 AM in response to Csound1

the answer of IT:

the first and second server work in the cloud of microsoft. Both work with auto discover.

the third server works in our local netword and need the connection over a mail proxy. in this local network work 8 exchange server in 8 (sub-)domains.

therefore it's not possible configuration without specification the (sub-)domain and not possible to use auto discover.

With iOS, i can named the Domain by configuration - this works fine with all three exchange server.

With MAC-OS, i tried this without success - "domain\user" without success too. It exist no field for input domain-name how by iOS.

exactly! It just works everywhere only with Apple Mac OS Mail not!

I am in the lucky position that I am the "IT Support" and I am administrating the servers and also did debugging on the Exchange Servers. Apple Mail seams just implemented something wrong.

I really do hope Apple will focus now on this problem (I Know off topic: and the Maps on IOS 6).

I have the feeling QA has some big problems testing the "new stuff"
