Just upgraded to Mountain Lion running on a 2011 3.4GHz i7 iMac. I'm getting choppy/jerky animation in the UI. When I'm changing spaces, switching the notification center on and off or using the launch pad to show all windows open, I don't get smooth scrolling. Let me mention that it is not a clean install. I did repair disk permissions but no change. Does anyone witnessed similar behaviour?

12GB of RAM and 360GB free on the HD
You may have to do a clean install.
Backup all your data to an external drive before doing this if you don't, already, use an external drive and Time Machine.
I'm seeing the exact same thing. I have a late 2011 13" MacBook Pro, 2.4GHz Core i5, 8GB RAM, 750GB hybrid 7200rpm hard drive with 475GB free space.

recently did a restore from time machine to get Lion to speedup and it worked.
do I really need to do it again now......

same problem in macbook air mid 2011 4 gb ram 1.6 ghz i5 128 gb hd. it's very very annoying. i regret upgrading.
Same here, I'm on a 2011 MacBook Pro. Switching between desktops is unbelievably choppy. Hope it gets fixed.
I'm also seeing some jerkiness when using the magic mouse. Tremendous lag every once in a while, but definitely never happened before. Basically, there seems to be an issue with graphics. I've already seen videos on YouTube of other people experiencing weird graphics issues with Mountain Lion.
Same here, Early '11 15 MBP, 8gb RAM. Choppy switching between fullscreen apps. Really annoying.

Chances are good that when enough reports are sent it, they'll actually notice our problem.
this is a serious problem -- combine this with the failure to extend the best features of the new OS to computers older than the last year and you have apples worst royal screwing over of its loyal customers possibly ever....

i have once again uninstalled Perian and that seems to have fixed this particular problem after a restart. nearly the same thing happened with the release of Lion. this still doesn't un-**** my broken third party image and video apps (VLC and Qpict are both down) that either crash or fail to display anything....
may need to dowbngrade
removing perian did not have any affect in my case
I don't even have Perian.
