Q: Messages.app - unable to sign in with Apple ID/OS X 10.8

I'm unable to sign in to iMessage with my Apple ID/password on Mac.

 

Hardware:

2 x 2.26 GHz quad-core Intel Xeon Mac Pro

32 GB RAM

Network connection via wired Ethernet - confirmed operational

 

OS:

OS X 10.8

 

Procedure:

(1) Launch Messages.app under OS X 10.8

(2) Select Preferences > Accounts

(3) Note iMessage (Inactive) in accounts list

(4) Enter Apple ID and password.

(5) Click Sign In

(6) Note indeterminate activity indicator (spinner) followed by alert sheet:  "Could not sign in to iMessage.  Could not sign in.  Please check your network connection and try again."

 

Attempted already:

(1) Changed router DNS settings to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for primary and secondary respectively.

(2) Deleted every plist remotely related to Messages, IMAgent, iChat.

(3) Verified iMessage works with same Apple ID on iPhone 4 and iPad gen 3.

(4) Restarted computer after (2)

    Thanks andzyao,

    Safe Boot method worked for me, iMessage now working as it should

    Kept returning message "unable to connect with servers at this time, please try again later"

     

    1. Shut down.

    2. Switch on again. Immediately hold down the "SHIFT" key until you the log in screen.

         By doing this, your mac will be in "Safe Boot" mode.

    3. Sign into iMessage using Apple ID.

    4. Shut down or restart your Mac normally.

    5. iMessage should open at startup.

    This works for me as well, however it does not last in regards to sending and receiving images. I usually need to go through this process once per day at this point.

    I had these same issues, unable to sign in with my Apple ID to FaceTime and the new iMessage after Mountain Lion upgrade. Following these instructions to start in safe mode and then sign in again to Face time and iMessage solved my problem.

    Both now working fine.

    Okay i had the same problem and i called up apple and now it works perfectly for me

    okay so follow these steps and it should work fine !

     

    - Open your keychain access from utilities.

    - Next step is that press on the keychain

    - When keychain opens ----> press on Keychain Access which is next to the apple symbol (left top corner)

    - Okay so after that press on keychain first aid in the drop down menu !

    - Over there put in ur password and username and start the verfiy .

    - If it says some error or verifcation not done ... then press repair and press start agian.

    - Okay now after this it should work

     

    but incase it doesnt work

    (careful u may lose all ur keychain password so make sure that everything is saved somewhere)

    - open keychain

    - go to preferences

    - reset my deafult keychain.

     

    and all the things will go or else just delete all ur keychains and do that step

    now restart ur laptop and ur imessage will work
