New Mac Pro, AirPlay Mirroring Icon not appearing

I have a brand new Mac Pro (purchased within the past month). Just installed Mountain Lion.

Mirroring is enabled in the Display preferences.

AppleTV is updated to the latest version.

I can use AirPlay from iTunes (it sees my AppleTV and I can send sound and video), but I do not have the AirPlay mirroring icon in the main status bar and don't seem to be able to mirror from anything.

Mac Pro is not on the list of models supported:

"AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer)."

See footnote 1 on http://www.apple.com/osx/whats-new/features.html#airplay

Most likely, the graphics cards do not have the right features yet.

So funny, my iPhone and iPad mirror with no problem, but my Mac Pro "can't" handle it...

Pleeeeeeeaseeeee..... right....

Stupid desitions from Apple...

Just like the desition that they wont let me watch hd movies which I paid for with my Apple Cinema 30!

Watch next update of What ever lion, it wont be able to out put to my display!

One thing I used to like of Apple is that it didnt matter how old your rig was, you could always upgrade it...

now, for get about it.

The Xeons in the Mac Pros do not have the onboard h264 encoding function.

Airplay from itunes is a different beast altogether - all that does is push compatible pre-exisitng media streams.

Airplay mirroring has to generate the stream live as well as send it.
