Yeah, if you bought Mountain Lion for the purpose of mirroring your screen you should go to apple and ask for a refund for Mountain Lion.

There are a lot more features in Mt Lion...

Hardware wise, it does what it did when it was new, not like they are removing anything.

Soooo disappointing!!!  AirPlay wasn't the only reason for upgrading but it was the top reason.

Nope, not going to buy a new laptop just for that feature.

Every person should have a computer replacement cycle built into his/her household budget.  Everyone should plan on buying a new computer every three or four years.  Technology becomes obsolete rapidly.

I completely agree -- this was THE feature I was excited about with Mountain Lion. This is a major disappointment.

The mirroring with apple tv was one of top reasons for my upgrade... Mid 2010 MB Pro... For the first time I am very, very disappointed. I told friends to upgrade because this reason and now I know this issue I'll tell them the mistake I made. Really annoying!

I already complained to apple support, even though its a waste of time.  I am extremely ****** about this not working on my macbook pro.  I bought it in dec 2010, not even 2 years ago.  The only reason i upgraded was for this. As far as im concerned they can have there imessage back.

Here is a link that has been floating around all day. Also, some have found that Apple IS willing to refund, don't know if its true.

    AirPlay Link

Also floating around is this link to a sight to allow older models to still mirror. AirParrot

I am a strong Appleite and only have been for less than 2 years. Mainly through being a K-12 Music educator. I have a recording studio in the room, three portable music stations (MBP) and 3 iPads in the dept. that enable the kids to learn at an excellerated rate. We now also use the iPad in conjunction with a 44" flatscreen with the Apple TV that is patched into an audio system in the room. ITS AWESOME. Though my personal MBP is out-dated for the airplay and I too am discouraged, the other MBP in the dept will be able to utilize this app. And with the great forum, found the ability to still do this with AirParrot.

The mistake Apple made was promote the ML system requirements as one package, when in fact, I feel it would have been better to do so per utility within the package. There was literature out there stating requirements, but you would have only found it if you were looking. I do agree that watching the keynote presentation made followers feel that any MBP 2007+ would work with all the features, but as a paranoid tech user, I wanted to make sure.

Again, I too, am not happy. But as an educator, it needs to be looked at in perspective. 2 years ago I would bash Apple on price, practices, etc. Now that we've actually had them in hand, I'll never go back to PC, nor promote it. Even though I can't do what I want to do with my 2010 MBP, I can still do a great deal more on my 2010 computer than most 2011/12 PC's can do.

I can only hope that Apple finds these posts, (and the reviews in the APP store are reflecting these) and works hard to correct if possible.

Just some words from a dissapointed, yet thankful public educator.

    JB

We all should get Apple to return our money or at least half of it. That was the main reason for me to buy it as well.

I have the most current Macbook Air from this June. 13" 8gig ram etc. Using Airplay via Mtn Lion is choppy, with lag between what is on the laptop screen and what is shown on the appletv. It is also dropping frames.

The feature just works with an Ipad 3. Macbook Air? Not so much.

For those that asked the question about Air Parrot it's working great in Mountain Lion. I bought it before I'd heard of the possibility of airplay mirroring. So glad I did now.
