Hi,

I would untick the "Enable This Account" to Disable it and then shut down Messages.

I would then restart Messages and re-enable the account.

If this does not solve it there may be other steps we can take.

It is late where I am and it will be a while before I catch up with everything.

Hi,

In Messages Menu > Preferences > Accounts the top item is the iMessages account and on the right it lists two IDs ?

At present I take it it does not state which one is the Logged in one ?

This pic only has one and shows it logged in

Are you not able to highlight one in the lower list and then use the - (delete) button ?

I am having the same problems. I had the Messages beta and that worked fine, I switched over to Mountain Lion and now it just keeps duplicating imessage accounts and whenever I try to text anyone it prompts me to "enable this account". I go back to preferences and poof! another "unknown" imessage account has popped up over the one I originally enabled. Frusterating!

Hi,

How many Apple ID do you have ?

I am not sure if this is relevant yet as I have server myself and I am not getting them appearing in Messages at the iMessage Account spot.

The Only way I know to get an Account into Messages (for the iMessages bit) is to

1) set an Apple ID the first time you launch Messages as part of trhe Set up

2) adding a second or third ID so you can changes your iMessages login.

I am not aware that Messages pulls any info from anywhere to use it as the iMessage info

(It can be different from the iCloud ID in System Preferences > iCloud (And of course Mail, Contacts and Calendars)

Mine does not even "swap" between the Apple ID it is and the iCloud one it was used to create.

Could you show us pictures ?

Hi,

I know that more than one iMessage Account is unlikely to be logged in if another one is but cannot you not get this ?

Now this second account is still Validating (And remained so whilst I was composing this post) which may make a difference.

You pic seems to show two "accounts" in the list on the left.

Hi,

At present you can only go in to the settings on the iPhone and set to call from the iPhone Number.

The Messages app on the Mac will only send as if from the Apple ID

Now if your contacts know both your Apple ID and your iPhone Number they will see whatever "Real Name" they have for your in their Address Book.

If they only have your iPhone number and you message them form the Apple ID you tend to get the "Who are you !!" reply message (as well as "giving away" an email ID you might not want to.

Info about iOS 6 seems to suggest this will come with the iOS 6 release.
