Is Lion ( not mountain Lion ) still available

I held off installing lion on my macbook air ( my mac mini can only go up to snow leopard and I thought my mac book air could take mountain lion ) waiting for mountain. Well it seems my macbook air 1.1 cant go up to mountain lion but can go to Lion. Oh well with lion I can icloud my iphone and macair.

But lion has disapeared from the appstore. There have to be people with macs who can get to lion and not beyond.

Will lion ( not mountain lion ) be dowloadable again soon do you think?

Thanks Richard

IIRC any Mac that can run Lion can run Mountain Lion and the other way around. So if your Air 1.1 has the ability to run Lion it should run ML also.

I doubt Lion will be available. It was removed from the Mac App Store and more then likely will not return. As stated above there are no Mac's that can run Lion that Can't run ML. So there is NO need, in Apple's eyes, to have both on the Mac App Store or available for purchase and download.

Stupid really, because that is not true. Some Macs can run Lion but their hardware is not suitable to run Mountain Lion, so I don't know what Apple are thinking. They have listed the Macs that can and can't run ML and some of those in the 'can't' catagory were fully compatable with Lion. They will have a big backlash on their hands if this is their conclusion. It forces Lion capable Macs to have to revert to SL with DVD reinstall capabilities. I believe Apple will at some stage have to reinstate Lion in the App Store, but it will have to be labeled properly, as there will certainly be confusion with Mountain Lion for people purchasing the OSX. This is where the AppStore downloading mentality may well fall apart on them.

Cheers

Ok googled it and came up with EveryMac list.

There are NO listings for any Mac for just Lion. The list they have is, from what I can see, up to date.

There are some Mac's that are listed as Current* Asterisk meaming it cam run ML but with some limitations. But there is Not Mac on there list that says LION 10.7. There are those that say SL 10.6.8 buty none for Just Lion.

So it seems that every Mac that can run Lion CAN run ML. Kind of what I said to begin with.

Now please prove me wrong with a List of Mac's that could run Lion and NOT ML.

Or as they say Whatever. Simple fact is everyone with this so called problem is Self inflicted. We all had a year+ to get Lion if you wanted it

Ok My mistake. I did not look far enough down the list. Thanks for the heads up. Sorry for the confusion.

Learn to Google, this has been well documented since Mountain Lion was first announced.

I stopped there and decided to publish them because it may help someone with the same type of question.

For the OP:

This question has been asked several times today and one of the longtime contributors is trying to get an answer. Check different threads in case there are news; my own personal opinion: I am hoping it was an error and it will be available.

I will give an example of why Lion is still needed. My wife is an experienced textile designer and very long time Mac user (shameless plug: see her Hawaiian and surf-themed iPhone and iPad cases here: http://www.hawaiiancases.com). Because of Adobe's constant foot-dragging on staying current with OS-X, she has been forced to run at least one version behind the current edition of OS-X in order to assure compatibility with Photoshop and Illustrator. Only now could she feel assured of being able to upgrade to Lion, but this morning, to her surprise, she found that Lion was no longer available for purchase on the Mac App Store.

I can give at least reasons why Lion is still needed by many professional users - and my wife is desperate to purchase a copy:

1. The Fiery RIP in my wife's very expensive printer/copier just updated its firmware yesterday for - get ready - Lion. There's no telling when it will be compatible with Mountain Lion.

2. Adobe has not officially announced that either CS5 or CS6 is compatible with Mountain Lion. However, I corresponded with the ever-helpful David Pogue, who assured me that he just completed a 900 page book on Mountain Lion using Adobe products, and he was/is running Mountain Lion. That helped us breathe.

The simple fact is that a number of apps and firmware are not yet certified to run correctly with Mountain Lion, particularly specialized software/firmware that my wife uses for her work. And that makes it imperative for my wife to obtain Lion.

Apple, please help your professional users. Make Lion available again!
