shorter battery life with mountain lion

I am using a Late 2008 2.4 MBP with 8GB RAM and was getting about three plus hours use while using Safari, no video use and Mail. I upgraded to Mountain Lion today and noticed an optimistic four hour battery life that quickly went down to just under three hours. I have the graphics card set to longer battery life and no other applications launched. What is your battery performance?

I'm running a 2.53 8GB Mid-2010 15". Before Mountain Lion, I would only have to charge my MacBook late evening before I go to bed and it would last the entire next day. I don't steadily use it, but I can get about 6 hours out of a full charge as I don't do a whole lot of battery intensive activities on here, mainly just use Safari and Mail.

With Mountain Lion, I notice a significant difference. It's mid-morning already and I am down to 59% battery life. I've been reading these forums for the past 35 minutes and my battery started out at 98%. I'm doing no different now than I was before the upgrade, which is just Safari and Mail running. My brightness is sitting at just under 50%.

I bought a mid 2012 Macbook Pro 13 i7 machine that had Lion on it. Upgraded to Mountain Lion and saw my battery performance go from nearly 7hrs under Lion to just over 2hrs under ML. I read several threads and tried all the SMC/PRAM resets, killing email accounts that I don't use much, turning off iCloud, etc. to no avail. They only made a marginal difference.

I was about to call Apple as a last resort, and then look at returning this machine since I'm still inside my return to BestBuy window.

On a whim, I started closing apps one by one that automatically launch on start up. After closing SugarSync, most of my battery performance came back. Closing DropBox helped some as well. Now, it appears that pretty much all my battery performance is back and possibly a bit more than before with Lion.

I haven't tested this for days or anything, but for the last few days I've only been consistently getting a little over 2hrs of performance on a full charge. Now, as of last night and this morning, I'm getting at least 7hrs and sometimes showing over 8hrs left. I've only been running Safari and Mail, but just closing SugarSync and DropBox seemed to have drastically improved my battery performance under Mountain Lion.

I had a phonecall from someone at Apple regarding this issue. He was gathering information for the Engineers and had me run a utility and a report then sent him the files. The information would be looked at and hopefully result in a software update. I doubt that 10.8.1 will effect our battery issues since it seems to have been sent out to developer already but stranger things have happened.
